MEDICAL EXAMINATION ... my story

We went for our medical examination last Friday, boy! it was a day I will never forget. Being unfamilar with the streets of London, we managed to find the place for an hour or so, I thought I could read the map better but I was wrong! ;p

When we arrived, the receptionist called my name and asked for the documents (embassy letter, passports, medical questionnaire and photos). I had to fill in another set of questionnaire, more detailed .. specific diseases Yes/No that sort of thing. Then I went for X-ray and afterwards met the nurse who discussed the vaccination requirements with me. It is important that you KEEP YOUR VACCINATION RECORDS UP TO DATE, mostly for adults it's DT (diptheria/tetorifice) and MMR (measles/mumps/rubella) that are commonly asked for, so if possible have it done before you go for your medical exam. You may choose to have it at the clinic, but you have to pay a hefty price for it. My husband needed the shots but we opt to have it done by our GP. Once he gets it done, he'll just have to ask for a certification from the GP that he did have the shots and we'll just have to fax it through.

I had my physical exam with the nice lady doctor, she said I'm physically fit then took some blood samples. Did the same thing with hubby. I had to be around when she did the physical exam with the kids as well.

And that's it, basically we just have to comply with the vaccination requirements and of course assuming everything is OK with the blood samples taken, then we have the Physician's approval to release a VISA for us!

And yes, they have increased the rate, it's £200/adult and £100/child. Our appointment was at 1 o'clock and we left at 3:15 pm.

Phew! I'm glad you got that over and done with. BTW..I'm horrible at reading road maps!

good information, nice to see that you have gotten it out of the way.

we had our medical the same day as the embassy interview.

we thought that all the vaccinations were up to date but still got caught out. my diptheria was missing and dh's tetorifice was missing, and we both had to have both as they only came in one injection and had to pay a fortune for it. our gp did everything else for nothing, so we were lucky.

its an expensive enough trip without the added expense of paying extortionate fees for vaccinations.

Nice experience... You can contact them after about 3-5 days if everything is fine and if they have forwarded to the US embassy prior to your interview. Welcome to USA...

Yes, that's what the receptionist told me. If I don't hear from them after 4 days then everything is OK ;)

What are the vaccines are required?

What are the vaccines are required?

That's DTP and MMR for adults.

And my story continues .....

We went to our GP, they didn't have MMR but gave my husband the DTP vaccine, then we had to pay £15 for certification. Apparently the vaccines are not free of charge for adults :o. Since they do not have MMR available, they recommended a travel clinic where we had to pay £40 for it.

So if you know where you could get it cheaper, you might as well have it done ahead of time. I did a google search and there are actually places in London that offer cheap vaccines where you could get £25 for MMR.

find it strange that they don't keep MMR as it is the same for adults as children and I have given a few to adults especially if the woman has come back as no antibodies and recommended to give especially if wanting family. We have never charged for DTP as it is a routine vac and can be claimed for to the PCT in fact a lot of vacs can be claimed for by the practice. I received mine from my gp for nothing and so did my husband then just asked them for a print out of vacs to show we had it. May be worth having a chat with your local PCT

I don't know why but that's what the GP told my husband when he showed him the letter from Knightbridge Doctors. Even if he had the DTP for free, they would still charge for the certification. Strange things people say and do and it makes you wonder .....

That's probably why when you call the surgery if they do MMR for adults they would immediately ask "for what purpose?", and they would think of charging you for that.

I had my MMR at GPS before medical last week, at no cost.

I know Abby my daughter was not due for tetnus but becasue it is due later this year she had to have it at the clinc anyway £25.

The most pain I felt last week was the charge of £725

and the train fare and hotel

Hopefully next expence will be flights to FL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
