Local board before NCLEX?

  1. hello everyone, i'm a student nurse and i'd just want to ask and confirm if the rumors are true that you don't have to take your Local Board or the Nursing Licensure exam in the Philippines. they said that it's ok to take NCLEX as long as you can enter the U.S. or you can take it in Hong Kong or Guam. Please help me out 'cause i really want to be prepared by the time i graduate. thanks....

It's not a rumor. You don't need to be licensed in the Philippines as long as the State you are going to apply for NCLEX eligibility doesn't require the CGFNS Certification and majority don't. Problems arise if you took it and failed because you have to disclose to the State BON/BRN or in the Visa Screen certification that you took it.

If you won't take the NLE and apply for NCLEX eligibility and Visa Screen Certification, you only have to include a cover letter stating that you don't have any intentions to practice nursing in the Philippines and that's the end of it.

thanks lawrence01.. i have one more question though.. can i ask what states would not require CGFNS that is also fast in processing papers? because i hav read in some of the threads that CA is really slow in processing the papers and some nrses in the us don't recommend that we take initial licensure in CA, they said something about endorsement instead.. i really want to work in california because i want to be closer to some of my families but the problem is that i am also in a hurry to work... thank you so much...

    Hi

At the moment you are affected by retrogression (plenty of threads on here about that) Not many states require CGFNS exam but most involve some dealings with CGFNS plus you need visa screen. Whilst you are just starting the process you must be aware that it will take you a while so may as well do things in a orderly fashion and be prepared for waiting and having plenty of patience

No such thing as a hurry to work if you are going to do things legally. You are talking of minimum of one year, and probably more. And that is from the time that you have completed the exams, not from when you graduate.

If you have taken local boards then you have to declare that you have and that you are waiting for results. They may delay application until they hear from you whether you have passed or failed.

What you both have to do is decide where you want to live and check out the BON website. There are only a handful of states that require CGFNS exam and a lot that require some contact with CGFNS ie CES. What you have to be aware of is just because you didn't do it for initial licensure when endorsing your license the state may require something you haven't done because you always have to follow requirements for foreign trained nurse.

If you do plenty of reading on here I am sure that things will become clear. I know when I first started reading this site a few years ago I read for days before I knew what I wanted to do
