Japanese Nurse moving to America

  1. 0
hello my name is kevin becker, my wife is a japanese nurse that i met while i was in the air force. we are now about to move back to the united states and i was wondering if there are any programs to help expedite japanese nurses getting their rn? any help in the matter would be greatly appreciated. we are working on her english grammar and sentence structure right now in preparation. i understand that being able to effectively communicate, both spoken and written, english is our first priority.

thanks for you time and info. in advanced.

after reading into it my wife would need to take the nclex-rn exam.

this exam plus what ever state requirements are all my wife would need to pass/take to become a rn in said state?
is the exam available in japanese or is it only in english?
is there any other information i should be aware of regarding the nclex-rn exam?

i am not worried about the green card or citizenship portion we are working on that right now.

the exam is in english and there is no way to expediate her she will have to follow whatever requirements is required by the state bon of a foreign trained nurse which may involve taking an english exam. check out the nclex forum as there should be plenty of stuff for her to use

The exam is actually offered in Japan, but only in English. But that is the final step in the licensing procedure, and she will need to have permission from a state to be able to even write that exam.

Suggest that you really focus on her English, as without that, she will not be able to get a job in the US.

Thank you Suzanne we are going to focus on her English for now and I am going to purchase Saunders Comprehensive Review for the NCLEX-RN and Kaplan NCLEX-RN exam, 2007 Edition w/ CD-ROM to see where she stands right now I know what she needs to work on with English: Vocabulary, Grammar, and sentence structure. When we get closer to our move to the US I will worry about getting her tested. We still need to get her green card.

My personal opinion? Go only with the Saunder's book, they do the best job of explaining the rationales, and that is all that I use in my program and all pass with it. Save the money.

hello kevin, saunderís is a good review book for the nclex. however, for an english language reviewer, my choice is col. rarickís review material for the english exams. being foreign-educated, i also took some english exams (thinking that i would need it but each board of nursing have different policies so you have to check it out first) and col. rarickís materials were very good. you can even contact the author in the us and he is so helpful. the website is: http://www.ielts4nurses.org/ultra_ielts_kit.html hope this helps. good luck!

Thanks for the english information I will just try to show her on my own I don't think it will be too hard. If it comes to it I will look for some study material. I am planning to enroll her in an ESL class once we move back to the the US. Again thank you for the English study guide refrence.
