Yes nurses with IPs are paid...In the institution that im working at its a little lower than the nurses with license already, so it depends on where you work..

Before you think of doing anything, let me throw in a few requirements for you as a foreign-trained nurse. Also depends on which state.

Not all of them have the IP and many are getting away from it. CA still has it, but they have specific requirements for it. They actually require that one take and pass the CGFNS exam as well as the English exams if you trained out of the US and wish for the IP. You would be paying all of the fees for the license as well as the additional fees for the actual Interim Permit to be issued to you.

Honestly, I would not even bother with the IP, since it is only valid for 6 months on top of everything and trying to find a job in CA at this time as a new grad is going to be quite difficult with the state of the economy. You also have only six month window before you will have to write the NCLEX exam.

Since this thread is specific to foreign nurses and has nothing to do specifically with the actual NCLEX exam, I am moving it to the International Forum. Thanks for your understanding.

Do you also hold a visa that will permit you to work already? Otherwise, there is no way to do it with the IP, as immigration requires that one has actually passed the NCLEX exam as well.

Once you fail the NCLEX your IP is null and void according to the CA website.

IP licenses are actually void in every single state once one writes the NCLEX exam; for the states that even still offer it. You either pass the exam and get the RN license, or you do not pass and then you can no longer function in this role of anything that needs a license to do.

This is why the majority of facilities will not even consider a nurse until they have written the NCLEX and more importantly with the foreign-trained RN.

Have you actually written the CGFNS exam if trying to get the IP for CA?

As I believe if you have taken and failed exam then you can not apply for IP

Even if you have the green card, if you trained out of the US; then you are required to write and pass the CGFNS exam before they will issue the IP to you in CA.

The IP is only valid if issued until one writes the NCLEX exam. If you did not pass it, then the IP is no longer an option, it is no longer possible for you to get it. You wrote the NCLEX exam, so there is no other option than for you to sit for and pass the NCLEX exam to work in the nursing field in the US.
