    Hi nurses,
    How long for a foreign LPN to apply for initial licensing in CA. I am a little hesitant to apply in CA cause i heard for RN it takes forever to get a license i just dont know for LPN. Thanks for a lot of response. It will help me a lot. BTW, will i able to work even tho i am not living in CA and in another state but will applly for license in CA? Thanks again.

    us immigration policy requires that a nurse be licensed at the highest level in their own country in order to move to the us under our visa program---that level is the rn.

    If you are going to work in another State then you need to apply for LPN/LVN licensure for that State. You will just be going in a merry-go round applying in CA then endorsing to the State where you will work. The LPN licesure you will be getting if you plan to apply in CA is only good on that State.

    Better just apply directly to your own State for LPN licensure.

    There is no board exams for LPNs in PI so this is not a problem for you and you have a GC as well so I really don't know why
    you are in a hurry as well. All foreign transcripts are always processed longer than if coming from a US school.

    I know CA license is only good in CA. But i can endorse it to that state i wanted to live and work right? I just have to follow there requirements for endorsement. My question is can I work on that state i want to live in and work while waiting for CA to transfer my license by endorsement? Thanks again..:uhoh21::typing

    No, you cannot work without a valid license in the state where you wish to work, and working without one, would be the same as not having one and makes you subject to legal prosecution. But be aware that any employer will not be able to have you start until you can present a local license to them.

    A license in never transferred when it is endorsed, you keep the one and then get the new one as well.

    If you are not going to live in CA, then do not go thru CA for licensure and please be very aware that if you do not hold a green card already, then you are unable to work in the US as you will not be able to get a visa based on that training.

    Dont worry Suzanne4 i am a US green card holder..Thank you. And if you will say I am still considered as foreign graduates that's OK also i can do their requirements. No discouragement needed. We all have it in some point as well. Thanks.

    Does not matter if you are a green card holder or even a US passport holder, the fact is that you graduated from a nursing program that is out of the US, and therefore, have to meet the requirements of a forein-trained nurse.

    Remember that licensure and immigration are two very distinct entities and are not related in most cases. Your transcripts are going to need to be reviewed and approved before you will be able to sit for the NCLEX-PN exam in any state, and not one of them are going to be as quick as if you attended school here.
