Help after passing NCLEX-RN (Illinois)

by Leis23

Hi, everyone!

Could you guys help me out? I just recently passed my NCLEX-RN for the Illinois BON. Considering that retrogression is looming, I may not be able to leave for the US soon. Although, I am just waiting for an interview schedule. My case was completed just last Sept 29,2006.

How long is my NCLEX-RN valid? I know I am required to have a SSN before a license can be issued..and I need to be physically in the US to get one. Will I indeed not be issued a license without a SSN? And what do I do if the validity of my passing scores expires?

Ok..hope you guys can help me out. Thanks in advance!

NCLEX is valid for life (I believe) If your language exams expire before your interview you will have to take them again

If you stay current in the nursing field, then your scores are valid for ever. But if you get out of the firld, lets say for ten years or so, there are many states that will require that you take the exam again.

Licence will not be issued by Illinois without a SSN#. And that is the final step of the immigration process, you must be ready to start work before you can apply for it. You also need to apply for it in person once you are in the US.

Working as an RN, not sure about Illinois rquirements, but many others will want a retake if a considerable number of years has passed.

If it is just until the retrogression is over, then there is no issue about it; but if ten years or so, yes.

thanks suzanne. I just got a letter from the BON of Illinois. They assigned me a SSN. I just need to submit a licensing fee and the application they sent me. And they will send me my license. I believe exam scores are good for 1 year as stated in their letter.

The BON do not assign SSN's, Social Security do when you get there with a valid work visa. Do you mean they assigned a license number?

Sorry, but that is not a SSN#, they cannot assign you one, they are done only be the Social Security Administration and that needs to be applied for once you get to the US and are legal to work.

They just gave you a number to aid in completing your file, but it is no way a SSN#.

Nut remember, if you are not in the US by the time that the license is expired, you will definitely not be able to renew without having an actual SSN#. And this goes for all states that issue licenses without the SN#, you cannot renew it without one.

I have not seen them issue an actual license without a SSN# in the past. You will need to submit the fee and see what they do.

Please keep us informed.
