You don't need an excuse! just tell her you applied and got the job on another ward because you didn't know if your present job was going to be permanent.Nurses move about hospitals all the time.

Nothing to worry about, you do not have to inform if looking for other work. Nurses do it all the time

I wouldn't have told anyone I was looking for another job, just given my notice. That's the common practice on my ward, if you speak to much about wanting to leave without doing it there are always people who'd take the opportunity to bad mouth.... but once you've got your new and better job, you've restricted what they can say!

It's a shame that for such a caring profession we don't always get the support and are made to feel guilty for moving on.

Congratualtions on your new job, I hope you enjoy it, and I'm sure (especially with the current job situation) your old wards vacancy will be filled quickly.

Congratulations, don't worry about handing your notice in you are going to a perminant promotion as the post you are in is not.

Your manager will have been in nursing long enough to understand the need for movement and job security

Employment has a natural ebb and flow to it. People come and people go. Don't fret.

I was a department manager for almost 20 years and it never let it bother me when staff announced they were giving noticed because they had found a new job. I would show (genuine) interest in their new job and wish them well on it. Naturally I would be sorry to lose them but most of my staff stayed with me some time *she boasts*!! so it was actually good to see them move on and better themselves. I had several leave to go on a theatre course and then come back as sisters!

Point being, it's a free country and what you do with your life is your business, no-one else's.

Since I left just about every other nurse on the ward is leaving! It's none of their business, nurses leave for all sorts of reasons & that's just how it goes. All the very, very best to you!!

I was yelled at (again) yesterday for not doing something that I was unaware I was "supposed" to be doing, which has become Standard Procedure where I work.

The stress of not knowing what I am going to be written up for next, the unrealistic workload and low pay are NOT worth it, and I am getting the heck out of Dodge as soon as I can find another job.

One of the reasons I am glad to work in the UK is that you are rarely "written up" for anything unless it has implications for patient care.

She has to give notice, it is different in the UK and she is going to work on a ward in the same trust which would be really frowned on by HR if she didn't give notice.
