After receiving the Notice of Receipt, you will receive a Notice of Approval or Denial or a Request for further Evidence.

If you will receive a Notice of Approval and if you will pass the embassy interview, you can be in the USA as early as October , 2009.

If you will be denied and your employer will appeal your case , it will usually take a year to have the result of the case. Others may take a shorter or longer time than this.

If you will get a Request for further Evidence, just expect to wait for a year at least to get the result of the case.

I hope I have given you some ideas. Good luck!

I was under the impression that to practice as a Nurse in the US you cannot use a H1b visa anymore.

A lot of hospitals don't use it anymore but some still do. The problems are and has been noticed this filing as there are still H1b visas left from allocation because the company has to prove they can not employ a USC or LPR which at the moment isn't the case because of the many USC LPR that are loosing jobs

Good news is that if petitions were submitted April 1st, there's a great chance you will get one, because they still hadn't reached the cap as of April 8th. Usually all the visas go in one day, but this year applications were obviously down due to the economy.

No problems practising as a nurse with H1B provided you a) have an employer and b) meet the criteria for the specialty visa.

It's not a matter of finding a list of hospitals that sponsor. Most hospitals will sponsor if they want YOU. It's up to you to make contact and convince people to hire you.
