Which country are you currently residing in? If the UK, I would definitely recommend doing everything on your own. There seems to be more trouble with the companies that operate out of the UK for some reason.........

Good luck.......................... :balloons:

How do you mean? Just uk ones pants or others one (american ones) ok? Have a mix of uk and usa ones information...Geneva and Procare USA calling tonight, Adevia want cv and form, some others too..

Why do you actually need to use an agency, first of all? Many of the nurses in SE Asia use them for the sole reason that they are unable to afford all of the exam fees, etc. Chances are that since you are in the UK, you have the funds to pay for the exams. If you do things on your own, things will get taken care of much faster and processed quicker.

Most of the agencies that operate out of the UK have developed bad reputations with the nurses that have signed on with them....why should it take a nurse form the UK over three years to be able to work in the US when they only need to take the NCLEX exam and get a Visa Screen Certificate? This happens all of the time..................and it shouldn't. I hear form nurses all of the time that signed contracts and are now having problems..many of them have clauses that you have to pay about $20,000 US to break the contract if you do not like it....

ok :( didnt realise that. Any suggestions on how to proceed then? An acqaintance suggested going through NY BON and getting their "special CGFNS report", sitting NCLEX through them, and then applying to whichever state we choose once we've done that?

ALso i had a rep from an agency on the phone last night telling me that CGFNS is not required. I was totally confused by this as the impression i got from what i've looked at so far was that either you needed the CGFNS credentials report and visascreen, and possibly the exam aswell, for 99.9% of the States? Any thoughts?

Thanks

Laura

The CGFNS exam is no longer required for many states, just a credentials verification. If you are considering NY, which I highly recommend, you can get everything done quite easily. You actually just send the applications to them for the special NY credentials eval plus for Visa Screen. Per NY protocol, CGFNS has to take the resposibility for requesting your documents and they can be used for everything.

The only three things that you need are the application for NY, and you can download it from thier website for the BON (Board of Nursing), the Visa Screen application and the NY Credentials Verification form, both of those from the CGFNS website. Once your documents are approved by NY, you will be able to write the NCLEX exam......

Good luck..............let me know if you have any more questions...

procare is no help

as far as i know you must have a license in the US before they help you

i might be wrong

keep me posted

Can you tell me why Procare is no help? I have been in discussions with them, and they have been really helpful. As for the NCLEX, yes i have to pay for it upfront, but they reimburse me the costs, and give me access to online tests and stuff to assist before exam.

Hi!

If you do all this in NY how easy is it to transfer to another state? Do you have to work in NY at all? Also, you would still need to find a sponsor/ petitioner wouldn't you?

My advice would be to go it alone. I contacted many agencies in the UK and became very frustrated with conflicting info. It's really not as difficult as the agencies would have you believe, contact CGFNS for Credentials Evaluation and VisaScreen, you can do everything online and it's much quicker than have an agency do it for you but of course there is the financial implication to consider. You'll have to pay your own fees but it's a small price to pay to get through the process in a much shorter time. Also by going independently, you can choose where you want to work, agencies won't guarantee specific States.

I already have CGFNS exam passed and visascreen certificate. How do I go about identifying and approaching possible petitioners/ sponsors. Is email bad manners, do I need to telephone or write, what info do they need initially?

So many questions!!!!!

they may have expanded their assistance from the last time i checked. that was 3 yrs ago...the specialize in travel nursing assignments...i would be more confident if i apply to the hospitals themselves or a healthcare system...they are agency...the supply nurses to hospitals...the thing is...the hospitals nowadays are wiser...instead of getting nurses from agency (the cost too much) they prefer their own staff to work OTs...you really get pay alot when you belong to an agency...the thing is that the benefits like insurance, in service education wont be free compared to working full time in the hospitals...did u ask procare if they will sponsor you? ask them what will be your contract if they are your sponsor? uhmm but they may look for a sponsor for you, 8its not necessarily they will be our sponsor...thats another thing...tell me, are you really interested in looking for an agency? have you heard about the quota being filled up already for this year? have you passed any test at all? like TSE/TOEFL, NCLEX?
