Flying Fruit Fly Circus.

I don't know if any of you have heard of this wonderful community circus that comes from our area here in the North east of Victoria. - This wonderful circus consists of approximately 60 students whose ages go from 7 or 8 through to 18 who are trained as circus performers - acrobatics etc. they are all local kids from Albury Wodonga and this school has been around for 25 years - They have toured world wide and l think they are off to Canada next year. I have an attachment to this school as a number of my children's friends have been through the circus school The school was performed as a result of an experiment in the international year of the child. It is a school that is based in a rural area and the catch phrase is about - ordinary kids doing extraordinary things- They are great to see. To quote the local paper this morning -

"The school is more than just an experiement - It is a successful, functioning part of the community and offers uniques opportunities and support for young talented circus performers."

Sadly last Saturday night some horrid little 14 year old (who has been charged with arson) burnt the school down - with 2 million dollars worth of damage.

Yes it is hard for the school / any school to lose all their teaching and memories etc - sadly the school also had all the awards posters and memorabilia associate with all the touring that these children have done. Many of these children actually graduate from the school and go onto be performers at circuses

The school teaches the children their school work which also continues for them on tour. Fortunately their centre where they train is a separate facility.

Anyway l really wanted to express my sadness at this senseless destruction that occurs in our world - Yes the kids have already had an alternative school organized that will keep them together as a group and needless to say they will have lots of counseling.

Have hopefully enclosed a photo - of them - It from their website called

The Flying Fruit Fly Circus was here for a two-day show dazzling Singaporeans with their remarkable circus performances.

The Flying Fruit Flies were in town recently when they performed in the Singapore Indoor Stadium on 5th and 6th June 1999 - their first performance in Singapore. A sellout crowd watched the Fruit Flies demonstrating their skills and dazzling acrobatic stunts in their latest show called Outburst.

Outburst has a cast of 30 young artists aged 9 years old to 18 years old from Australia who have been working as a team together for the past two years. The show is a non narrative work which explores the elements of Earth, Air, Fire and Water. Artistic Director Kim Walker and Director of Training Gong Rong Lu came up with a seamless work of dazzling aerial acts, breathtaking tumbling routines, astounding balancing acts and much more.

The two hour show showcased some of the youngest and talented circus performers in the world today. Combined with a musical team comprising of musicians Vicki Hanson (composer), Blair Greenberg and Peter Kennard, Outburst was a delight to watch and left us with a feeling of joy and optimism for the future of the youth of today.

Outburst came to Singapore straight from a highly successful season at the 1999 Circus Festival in Australia. With this show, The Flying Fruit Fly Circus celebrate twenty years of training and entertaining people both in Australia and from around the world.

GEEZ! Tookie, this is terrible news!!

I know about the Flying Fruit Fly circus, it's WELL known here in Australia. Remember when it first got off the ground. How awful. So sorry to learn of this despicable act of arson. Hand that 14 year old over to me & I'll teach it a lesson or two!! Still, it must be a very sick or sad 14 year old to do something like that, so maybe pity is what's needed??...

Hope the circus kids can move on from this horrible experience & use it to grow & become stronger. Use it as a learning curve as to how NOT to behave!!

Comiserations to all involved.

Cheers,

Grace

Hi Renerian,

A little update on the fruit flys - they have moved together as a school to a local school (The one where my kids went to school) they are going to have a new school built.

The freemasons have already kicked in 10,000 to help them get started and cause they beieve they are a worthwhile group to support .

For those who may have not heard of them - a lot of the performers go onto perform and tour with the circus OZ.
