hi there wishin$NZ,

Thank you for your reply. I would like to inquire how many participants attended the competency program with your wife? and how many were filipinas versus other nationalities? Did she go to Manukau Institute or elsewhere?

Again thanks and have a nice day,

12 pinoys/pinays (Waiariki Institute of Technology in Rotorua) + 1 Indian , 2 Kiwis..I suggest that you research about Manukau if you really want to study there...some said that its not a nice place in Auckland.

Thanks for your advice regarding Manukau. How much is the cost of CAP (Competency Assessment Program) in Waiariki Institute of Technology in Rotorua? Do they offer in campus dorm? or they allow students to live out of campus?

Thanks and have a nice day sir,

Wishin4NZ, thanks for your quick reply, I was just interested on how much does it cost for the Program and how did your wife went thru her accomodation? Was it in campus dormitory or outside univ accomodation?

Have a nice day, thanks.

hello narsbing,

i have a few questions for you

1) is it true that by September 2007 the ielts requirement for NZ competency course will be 7.5 in each area, instead of 7?

2)we were told that you will have a difficult time getting a nursing school in NZ if you dont have an agent. How true is this?

3)what is the average time to process everything?

4) is working experience or training a requirement to get into the competency program?

5) we are currently doing our paperworks thru an agency.. and we find their fees to expensive.. if we decide to do the processing by ourselves.. how do we tell nz council that we are no longer being represented by our agent? is that possible?

i hope yu can enlighten me on this. thank you so much!! God bless you!!!

Answer - 1) I have no info regarding the changes in IELTS requirement.

Present Approved English language assessments are:
· Academic International English Language Testing System (“IELTS”)
with a score of at least 7.0 in reading, listening, writing and speaking
respectively.

Answer - 2) Nursing schools in New Zealand is not in any connected to any of your agency. You can research on where do you want to live and which School is offering CAP.

Answer - 3) Timeline is not written in stone, but if assuming everything goes well and all your funds for enrollment is prepared, probably 2 to 3 months maximum of 6 months.

Answer - 4) Based on other nurses experience and from what I have read here and on other forums concerning nursing in new zealand, it would be the nursing council that will decide on a case to case basis.

Answer - 5) Have your agency submitted your application form to the nursing council? Have you signed and filled up the application form? Please check the link above. Try emailing them for specific answer to your case. I tried emailing them when I asked for the application package and they reply fast.

Cheers and have a nice day.

Overseas Nurses – Be Careful!

The international shortage of nurses is resulting in many more nurses coming to New Zealand via international immigration agencies. But with the growth in this type of nurse migration, NZNO has concerns about the practices of some agencies. This advice sheet has been prepared by NZNO after we became aware of Filipino nurses coming to New Zealand and experiencing exploitative employment and immigration practices.

Recruitment Agencies

Some international agencies charge exorbitant rates to complete the necessary immigration and registration requirements. Other dubious practices by immigration agencies are withholding personal documents including passports; pressuring nurses to sign up for hire purchase agreements soon after arrival; arranging deductions from wages; and fostering excessive dependency of nurses on immigration agents for accommodation and childcare.
