Overseas nurses applying for registration as registered nurses must have:
  • registration with an overseas regulatory authority AND
  • EITHER an overseas qualification equivalent to a New Zealand nursing qualification purpose of assessing competencies for the registered nurse scope of practice.
  • OR have successfully completed a programme approved by the Council for the purpose of assessing competencies for the registered nurse scope of practice.
It didnt say number of years experience required.

hi wishin4NZ,

may i know what will happen to our application if the ielts result is this:
listening=8, reading=6.5, writing=7, speaking=7 , overall bandscore=7. i sent my application last june 23 and my ielts result came out july 23 and they mailed it directly to NZ nursing council.
will they automatically downgrade my application from Registered Nurse to Nurse Assistant due to the 6.5 score in my ielts?
Please enlighten me.
God bless!

I think , the NZNC will require you to retake the IELTS since you need a score of 7.0 for each band(if you really want to apply as a RN)..... You can apply as a HCA (health care assistant) but i would not recommend it .Better to retake the IELTS instead..Its better if you email the NZNC directly regarding your queries, they are quick and prompt when replying to emails.. Good luck on your application
