lavalin is right. You can process papers to be assessed by the New Zealand Board of Nursing, send it to them and save that 180,000 placement fee. That agency is going to do the same procedure anyway . Your a Nurse, I guess you can do the legwork. Goodluck

Is there any guarantee that you can find a job easily after you finish the competency assessment program? If so, how long will it take to process your working visa? Thank you for your help!=)

hey you guys are so great! I never thought these much people can dare to apply in New Zealand by themselves!

In one consultancy firm I inquired, I almost choked when I saw how much placement fee it would cost me. I figured, why cant I do it by myself? P180,000 is no joke. Only If I can do it right, I can successfully make it. I am a June 2006 passer and with all the desperation and depression I felt these past few months, I felt like this is the time to break free from it.

Though NZ doesnt require a retake, I will still take the Dec 2007 boards to erase the stigma. Plaese help out a colleague here!

What are the keypoint steps to take, tips to go to NZ as nurse *the kind wherein you cant find in a website-- just the experiences you have while processing. You can pm me anytime. Thanks a whole lot!

Hi,

Been surfing the internet.

NZ Nursing Council: http://www.nursingcouncil.org.nz/
where you can find all the steps you need to take to be able to have a practicing certificate in NZ

contact: oseas@nursingcouncil.org.nz
I e-mailed them and got a reply the day after. It is best to e-mail the only authority in nursing in NZ before asking somebody else.

Pinoy Blog: http://a-pinoy-in-nz.blogspot.com/
He is not a nurse but this blogger has informative entries on practically everything about NZ, you can find other Pinoy blogs in NZ linked on his site too. Interesting journal.

Yahoogroup: pinoyz2nz at yahoogroups dot com
Please don't bother them with questions unless you have looked at their file section and still can't find an answer. They have this cool word file for NURSES, look it up, it's really helpful.

Lastly, 4 out of 5 people I know have been advicing against agencies. They say the process is tedious but you can do it by yourself. Save your money for the continuing education the council will be requiring you.

Good luck to us!!

Hello, Yoo Jin! The council is really very accomodating. In less than a week of requesting for forms via email they sent me two (you just need 1, of course) packets. This contains all the infos and forms you need for registration. The competence assessment program, btw, is 6-8 weeks.

hi wishin4NZ,

I want to know how i can do all the paperworks by myself and the expenses also. Please share your info with me.

One thing that bothers me a lot are the expenses. Is it better to go through a placement agency (reliable placement)? I saw the amount they'll be asking from one of the posts and I dunno if I'll have that big money to pay them. What can you suggest?

Big thanks!!!

to RN_05 - i sent you a PM

to janet - after you have submitted all the necessary papers it usually takes about a month or two for the council to process your papers . they should have received the ff papers before they could start the processing

1. IELTS results -- must be mailed by the testing center
2. Transcript - must be mailed by your school
3. PRC papers - must be verified and mailed by PRC
4. birth certificate, and or marriage cert , passport and PRC board certificate- you must have it authenticated by malacanang , dfa , nz embassy and to be mailed by you.
5. completed application form - must be mailed by you
6. professional and character references - must be mailed by your referees

just send me a PM if you have any questions tnx
