Eligibility in Nova Scotia

World International

Published

Hi guys!

I just received my eligibility to write CRNE in NS (Thank God!) but I am a little confused if I am still going to take the competency assessment or not. This is what the letter stated.

The College of Registered Nurses of Nova Scotia (the College) is pleased to advise you that you

are now eligible to write the Canadian Registered Nurse Examination (CRNE) and apply for a

temporary licence.

The CRNE is:

1. Offered three times per year, February, June and October.

2. The next writing of the exam is February 2, 2011. You can apply after October 6, 2010.

3. If you are planning to write on this date, please apply and pay the fee of $539.32 by credit

card on our website: Nurses > Registration > RN Examination Registration by

November 26, 2010. Payment can also be made through international money order.

4. Your identification card and information regarding the CRNE will be mailed to you about 2-

3 weeks before the exam date.

5. You will have three opportunities to pass the exam in the twenty-four (24) month period

following the date of this letter (By-Laws College of Registered Nurses of Nova Scotia,

2009).

REGISTRATION AND NURSE PRACTITIONER EXAMINATIONS

Candidates shall have a maximum of three (3) opportunities to pass the Canadian Registered Nurse Examination in

the twenty-four (24) month period immediately following their eligibility to write, and candidates shall not be

permitted to further write the registration examination without

(a) providing evidence of extenuating circumstances;

(b) retaking a nursing education program; or

© successfully completing a competence assessment, at the candidate's expense.

I am just a little bit confused regarding the statement No. 5. It's not quite clear to me. By the way, I am here in the Philippines and I dont know yet what would be my next step after receiving my eligibility. For now, I am planning to look for a prospective employer first in NS before I'll take CRNE. Would you suggest other options??

Thank you!

You have eligibility to sit CRNE and you have 3 chances in 2 years to pass the exam. You do not have to do any assessments. Next step is find employer and start immigration process either for PR or Temp Work Permit. A lot will depend on which route you are planning on following

Thanks for the reply silverdragon. Now I will search for employers online but i think it will be difficult in my part but I will still try. I will submit my CV to each health authorities there and different LTCs like SHannex. I hope someone will consider my application.

It may be difficult, I know a couple of nurses already in NS struggling to find work and they already have eligibility to sit CRNE and in the country. Keep trying but be aware for many it takes ages to hear anything back, I am still waiting for replies to resumes I sent in 3 months ago although I now have a job it is only because I chased it up and is with a LTC facility.

Last I heard Capital Health wasn't really employing anyone outside their employment but don't give up trying. I also have noticed less jobs being advertised

Good luck

Hi donRN1024,

I was looking at your recent posts. It only took you 5mos to get your eligibility? Am I correct? Wow! Because as I was looking at the CRNNS website, it says there taht it will take 6-8 mos. I am thinking of applying for eligibility in NS. I hope it won't take long before they could give me eligibility. I hope no more SEC.

by the way donRN1024, have you found a job online already? Try GemHealth too...

Dacboo - it only took me around 6 - 8 weeks to get approval. I think a lot depends on getting all the appropriate information to them so they can access your application, and I have heard some nursing schools can delay the process because they either don't send ALL the appropriate information, or they are very slow at sending it all.

Hope it all goes well for you!

Bec

thanks for the info dvsbec. Unfortunately, the application fee will be higher come November. From $138 it will be $460. I am yet to take the IELTS on the 30th of this month. Hmmm... But I would still like to apply in NS. I also would like Saskatchewan but from what I've read from other posts, it took a year for some to receive the confirmation for eligibility.

by the way dvsbec, when did you apply for the eligibility? are you done with the CRNE?thanks!

Hi dacboo!

Yes you are correct, it took only 5 mos for me to receive my eligibility but it is actually quite a long wait compared to other applicants. Basically, it really depends on how long you will be able to complete your credentials. In my case, I got some problem in my registration from previous country that Ive work at.

Presently, I am still in search of employer and it is not easy as I thought. Anyway, Goodluck for all of us!

I hope it won't take me a year before receiving the confirmation. I was thinking of applying to Saskatchewan but to my dismay there are posts here that SRNA application will take long. Now I have decided Nova Scotia, but the fee will be $460 come November. Anyway, thanks donRN1024. I need to contemplate first about the NS fee..hehe

Dacboo - i applied back in march, approved to sit CRNE in april. Haven't sat the exam yet - all things going well, hopefully will be able to sit in Feb when we're there.

I saw the cost had increased considerably for IEN's. I'm wondering if you could apply now (when the cost is less) and forward the IELTS results once you've done that? I'm not sure if it can work that way - is just a thought....
