by 1louise4 Oct 12, '11Hi I am a student nurse in my 3rd year of training and need to start thinking about my elective placement, I am not interested in going abroad but want to go to go somewhere specialized that would be really beneficial for the end of my training rather than a general ward. I know a few students going to the Christie and I'm having trouble finding other specialized centres/hospitals. Any help or suggestions would be much appreciated!!?

What type of placements have you done already.
My thoughts would be major trauma centers, burns, neurosurgery, transplant units or was there anything more specific you had in mind - Oct 12, '11 by 1louise4Trauma center sounds along the lines of what im wanting, or cardiovascular, or respiratory, I've done quite a lot of palliative, oncology and surgical! I cant find any in the UK but i know they are some i just don't know them....?

There are big A&Es that include regional trauma and burns centers.
But I guess you need to be thinking what specialty you want to work in, and find a placement that is a preparation for that?
You don't say where your interests lie, maybe its good to start there, decide where you want to work, and figure out "how to get there"?
I'm not saying your placement will offer you a job, but there is nothing wrong with networking, and finding out the background of nurses already working there to figure out a career path for yourself.
