Does anyone know M1 visa?

by n50307

My friend,She's holding M1 visa in nursing school.I have heard that she can't change the status from M1 to F1.However,she would like to stay here to wait for a chance to be a RN.It's quite difficult to find a M1 visa school. Therefore, she would like to have a F1 visa and go to ESL to study english more.Does anybody know how to do?Go back her country again and go to American embassy to have a interview again? Will it has some problems regarding the result for I-485?or Can she have F1 visa?
Thanks

The M1 is a temporary visa and cannot be adjusted to any other visa. There are already several threads written on this very topic/visa. You just need to do a search for it.

She cannot change the M1 to any other visa in the US. And so there is no way for her to wait for anything to become available. Not sure how she was using the M1 for nursing school, it is normally not used for that and that is why she is not finding any schools that accept it. It is for short courses only, not traditional nursing programs.

Sorry..I can't find anything.
If she come back home, does it mean her M1 visa will be expired?
She still has F1 visa in her passport. Is it still valid before she go to the U.S. again?or she needs to apply it and go to US embassy again?
Thank you.

What exactly is your friend taking up? Associate degree in nursing? When is she graduating? Actually, even if she is on an F1 visa and will be graduating soon, she needs to be in either OPT or continue to be a student to be able to stay if she wants to wait for a window to adjust status if she can't do any of those 2 things, she needs to leave US within 30 days after graduation. Some are just upgrading from ADN to BSN or from BSN to MSN just to be able to keep staying in the US. She needs to consult her International Student Adviser if she wants to maintain to be a student. But there is no guarantee that that window will even open.

If your friend is not satisfied with the info about M1 or advise coming from her Int'l student adviser, then it would really be best that she consult an immigration lawyer.

Please just refer to the link I posted above and on the 2 links about M1 and F1. As discussed from that thread as well, they will usually not grant an M1 or an F1 visa if they find out that there is an ulterior motive into it. There are far too many people using the student visa as scapegoat for other things. There is also a dual-intent clause in granting student visas besides from the financial capability clause, so it wont be easy to get a student visa.
