Do I need to take CGFNS???

by caycay

Good day!!!
I'm a Filipino nurse who is currently working in Ireland. I have a fiance there in Seattle who is petitioning me as of now.The problem with me now is I don't have CGFNS and I want to proceed with NCLEX right away. I just want to know if its possible for me just to have my NCLEX without CGFNS.
So my other option now is if I need to take my CGFNS there, I will apply in California Board of Nursing instead where there's no CGFNS and as soon as I passed that test, I will transfer my license there in Seattle. Could it be possible for me to do that? Or you will still request for CGFNS eventhough I have the license already?

Thank You very much!

You do not transfer a license, you will be endorsing it. You will retain the license that you first get, and then add to it when you get licensed in other states. Please be aware that CA takes on average about 4 months to get approval to sit for the NCLEX exam, and then they do not have quick results.

WA does not require the CGFNS exam to endorse, but please check out their website, things are always changing. And you cannot endorse until you have an actual SSN#, CA will not do that for you until you have a license number assigned.

You will be applying for licensure as an RN, the NCLEX is just one part of the process. And not sure where you are in the processing, but it is months for you to get the EAD thru the K-1 visa processing, it is not instant.

Moving this thread to the International Forum since it is specific to foreign nurses, and many Americans do not know anything about the procedures that need to be followed.

Best of luck to you.
