Dilemma

Here is my situation and I hope I can get advice on how to get a job soon.

I graduated in 2008 with my BSN, I took the nclex, passed and got a job with my OPT. Because it took me so long to find a job (shortage was already over) I was only able to work as an RN for 4 months. When I was hired, I asked the recruiter it there were sponsoring/file for me they said yes as long. When my OPT ran out, They declined to file for me and so I had to resign.

Back then my bf was a resident and filled for citizenship when he became eligible soon after. we got married and have filed for me.

I will be getting a work permit soon. My dilemma is that how do I explain the gap in employment on job application and to prospective employers. It is really hard to land an interview in my area and i dont want to be dismissed before i get a chance.

Any suggestions on what to say on the application and in an interview? Should i put the 4months job on my resume or not? Do I need a refresher course in order to get a job.

Any suggestions would be helpful thanks.

Any suggestions?

I would tell a prospective employer the truth.

I don't think there should be a problem for you, cheer up! Tell them the truth, that due to visa requirements you had to stop temporarily. Putting in the 4 months is better than not having any experience at all.

I think refreshers are for those that left the practice for about 5 years.
