The local board is exam, of course, leads to local licensure. The question whether to sit for it depends on your objectives. If you are aiming for CGFNS Certification, then local licensure is a prerequisite for taking that Certification exam. That being said, the necessity of having local licensure or CGFNS Certification depends on the requirements set by each individual state board of Nursing. Many BON's now do NOT require the CGFNS Certificate but would need the CGFNS Credentials Evaluation Service...See
www.cgfns.org and the official website of the state board where you intend to practice for specifics. Furthermore, many of these board requirements actually factor in on shaping the direction of which exams to sit for, etc.
