Is there a high chance to get a nursing job in australia after the bridging? Anyone knows what region or place in australia still has a high demnd for nurses? Thanks.. I am scared to waste my hard earned money..

Hi! I'm also wondering if there's still a high chance of getting a nursing job in Australia after the bridging course. I'm planning to start my application for a bridging course before this year ends. I hope someone would reply regarding this and answer our inquiries.

Hi Idealscholar! I was wondering where you got your information regarding the job certainty. I know someone who went to Australia last Feb 2012 and she was able to get a job after her bridging program even if she didn't have any work experience back here in the PI. She actually was able to have a vacation here in the Philippines again last Sept for about a week or so. Now she's back in Australia to continue her work there.

I know someone who went to Australia last Feb 2012 and she was able to get a job after her bridging program even if she didn't have any work experience back here in the PI. She actually was able to have a vacation here in the Philippines again last Sept for about a week or so. Now she's back in Australia to continue her work there.

that's just wonderful news. very positive. We all have to have a positive outlook on how things will happen. :) It all starts with us and how willing we are to pursue what we want to do.

Just thought I'd put my 2 cents in. I'm an australian nurse and over the last 12 months have noticed a decrease in jobs, especially for nurses with little experience. In my state (Victoria) 40% of new graduates missed out on a position for next year. And I hear other states aren't much better. Queensland announced it was cutting 2000 public hospital nursing positions as well.

In my mind with so many unemployed new grads floating around I think you may struggle to find a hospital who will sponsor you for a visa. You try a private hospital but as I said why would they want to spend the money on sponsorship if they don't have to.

Please please look in to the job situation before you spend your hard earned money on a bridging course.

I concur, also an Australian nurse of many years and employer of nurses. Things have changed dramatically. Government now wants more proof that a local can not be found for a position. Money is so tight that employers have had to cut down in all places and if a position cannot be filled it is being reconsidered, how inhouse it can be covered. We are not to spend money on recuiting and sponsorship visa's without excutive okay.

Stories that ONE nurse has made it over 6 months ago, with no experience does not mean 200 nurses can do it today.

Thnk carefully and network with any other Filipino nurses that are working here, they may be able to find you are job..this can only be done in private or aged care....as may have been the case with the one nurse that did ner BP in february.

If you have 2-3 years in theatre or ED, there are chances for work.

Despite such, I still have not made a firm decision about my own nursing career. Like @kitkat19, I would like to seek some opinion regarding my current professional status...

I am an OR staff nurse since January 2012. So upon successful application to AHPRA (if finally decided to do so after getting ielts 7 considering an allowance of 3-6 mos) I would have accumulated 1 year plus exp in OR.

Would my qualifications be attractive enough for the Australian health care market after AHPRA registration?

I'm also a theatre nurse :) I think with 1 years OR experience you might be able to find work in a small private hospital. The big public hospitals might not be interested but try private clinics or day surgeries. The money isn't as good but hey, if Australia is where you want to be...

Guys, here's the thing, everyone is posting how to go there and get there and come there into these bridging programs, but at the end of the day, we are NOT hearing from many others as evident in recent past years of "Hi, I GOT THE JOB", "I have an JOB INTERVIEW", "I START THE JOB SOON, etc, doesn't that tell you something?

It's very clear in my mind, the job market for nurses, be they of their own or international, is simply not there, it's not happening.

Now, let me clarify this: if it's the aged care, nursing homes, private caretaker jobs, that's NOT for ME, sorry, I prefer and desire to work in a hospital with pediatrics patients, I have many friends that don't care for the aged care or the likes (nothing wrong with these job fields, if that's your calling, go for it), but like many PH friends and batchmates, we want to work in ER, ICU, cancer units, peds, L&D, women's health and the vast specialities. There's so much more working as a nurse than being in the aged care and the likes.

We may hear of a friend or a person that got hired, but I ASK where? In a hospital? The reality is for every one job worker, there's 1,000's still looking for the first interview, the first call back, the first offer.

Thanks for the reply sezza. Australia it is! However, the cost-effectiveness of bridging programs gives me the preemptive scare. Would private clinics/day surgeries be willing to grant sponsorship to foreign nurses? And by how much would the pay vary compared with public hospitals? Thanks!
