Another reason why I do not like the CGFNS exam, and which book were you using for review?

If an NCLEX review book, the tests are nothing alike, and the NCLEX prep doesn't prepare you for the CGFNS exam. The questions are completely different. Not in any way similar.

Sorry that you did not make it.

I started with Official Study Guide for the CGFNS Qualification Exam sold by CGFNS for $45. It's a 450 page book I guess every one on the test has one since the price is included in the $295 first time application fee. I then used Sauders Review. Actually I felt the Qs in the real test quite similar w/ the Official Guide, but a little easier than Saunders. But generally I didn't feel a lot difference among all these books. I got an average of 60-65% in both books with Sauders at the high end 'cauz it was towards the end.

I am a little frustrated now, since let's say 800/275, each Q worths 3 points in average, and I am 50 points short, I need to get 16.666 Qs more in order to pass. And that's 16.5% of all Qs. If I am already at 65% in average, it means I need to get 65+16.5=81.5% in order to pass. So the rumor is true?! One really needs to achieve exactly 80% to pass.

Not all questions have the same points issued to them.
I have taught preparation classes for the CGFNS exam overseas, as well as the NCLEX exam, and the approach for preparing is completely different for the two exams.

You actually need 401 points to pass the CGFNS exam, just over 50% 0f the actual points available. But remember that there are 'bonus' questions on that exam that do not count, just like the NCLEX exam where they are testing out new questions. So you need to base your calculations on fewer questions. But again, that is not the way to prepare for either exam.

Nursing in the US is very different from what you did in your home country. It will be a real eye opener for you when you begin. Even my students that knew exactly what to expect were quite surprised by the differences. They did not realize that it would be as extreme.

I agree with you Suzanne that the two tests have a good chance to be totally different, though I have no idea how the second one really is. But the official guide is supposed to be targeting CGFNS certificate solely, right? There are other study materials for sale on CGFNS, I am just wondering how good one has to be with them in order to pass the exam.

Default A possible reason
There is at least 1 review center here and 1 big nursing school with their own machines for checking the papers. They bought the machines from the US so their students can get the feel of answering the actual exam, and to facilitate checking.

They found out that the manner of shading is very important.

You have to shade the entire box or circle darkly. If you shade too light for the machine to detect, the number is counted as wrong. They noted some cases where the shading is so light that the machine only gave 5 correct answers, when a manual check showed 90 correct answers out of 100.

You have to erase completely. If not, that number will also be counted as wrong.

I hope this helps you, and the other people in this forum.
