I so wanted to work internationally. To assist, an uncle registered me for CGFNS exam. Got the books, read like mad and had the confident that the exam will be a piece of cake. First attempt, NOT SUCESSFUL, had 26 points more to have scaled thru. Second attempt, NOT SUCESSFUL, had 40 points more to have succeeded. Now, am done trying. What did i do wrong? I wonder till date. So, tell me viewer, have u ever attempted CGFNS exam? Did u pass or fail?

there are only what, less than 10 or 5 states that require a CGFNS exam. So I'm assuming your intended state of practice is one of these states. If not, be sure to check with your BON.

CGFNS exam was once used by majority (or considerable number) of states to assess whether an international/foreign nurse is eligible to be registered as a nurse here in the US. It's just one of the requirements. It determines your entry-level knowledge as a general nurse.

Now, I think, there are only less than 10 or 5 states that require CGFNS exam. Most of the states are now using the CGFNS Credential Evaluation Service (CES). CES is not an exam. It's just an evaluation of your nursing education and registration and examines whether your qualifications are comparable to that of the US standard.

BON - Board of Nursing. Each state and territory has its own BON. So each of them has different requirements. The first thing that I would do is to choose what state you want to practice in and check that BON's website.

Also, you mentioned you want to work "internationally" but also mentioned CGFNS so I assumed you want to work in the US.

Before sitting something that is only of use for the US you should have researched appropriately

Only a handful of Board of Nursing (BON) in the US accept CGFNS exam, most just require some form of course assessment.

Not sure if you have heard about retrogression but suggest you also read up about that as well

 I know retrogression and i find it offensive that u are insinuating am being retrogressive. My thread is to find out those that has similiar experiences with me. My last attempt on CGFNS was 5 years ago, lots must have changed. Am not based in US and i've not researched on the exam until now. Was that a wrong thing to do?

oh no, Silverdgragon is not saying that you are "retrogressive". And it's not offensive.

Retrogression means there's no immediate availability of immigrant visas that will allow you to work in the US. It takes 6-9 years before a visa maybe issued to you.

Oh! I apologise Silverdragon. If u had used 'visa retrogression' and not 'have u heard of retrogression' i won't have gotten it all twisted. I just read it up.

passed!I only did was self-reviewed..It's hard and am thankful because computerized unlike before time consuming to shade!pure medsurg.I read CGFNS book that they gave me and NCLEX book I found very HELPFUL especially Q&A to enhance on practicing how to answer the different situations and strategy.

Many CGFNS visa screens will be retaken due to the retrogression of visas.

what?oh no! I'm here in Virginia. How about on my situation? How long if someone passed CGFNS wouldl be effective?

CGFNS exam is nothing to do with CGFNS visa screen and visa screen certificate is only valid for 5 years so I would only suggest applying for visa screen once you are near your PD. Not having a visa screen shouldn't have anything to do with finding a employer
