Can somebody settle a bit of a debate we're having at work?

I remember being told at school, that the exam was a national exam with certain questions being thrown out for different provinces and scope of practice. It is scheduled on the same day for each province (in order to reduce the chance of someone calling a friend in another province and giving the heads up).

Another LPN states that it is a provincial exam with a different version for each province.

It's driving me nuts because I've got an old copy of the "Canadian PN Exam Prep Guide" right in front of me and "I've got more experience than you so I'm right" at work is telling me I'm wrong....

Maybe directing her to your responses might finally settle the matter, because me bring the book to work sure hasn't....:uhoh21:

My exam was 8 years ago. I gradded in Ontario and wrote the exam in B.C. I do remember we all wrote on March 21st, and when I called my friends later that night, we talked about the same questions.

where do you go to do the national exam for LPN's?

Each province has its own registration exam. But it may be hard to find info online under LPN because they are called RPN's (registered practical nurses) in Canada. You also have to meet the college requiremants in order to write the exam. A good place to start may be the RPNAO. Thats the ontaio board. Hope this helps with your info search

Practical Nurses are only called RPN in Ontario. In western Canada RPN stands for Registered Psychiatric Nurse.

We are known as LPN's in every province other than Ontario and Quebec.

Each province has a College of Licensed Practical Nurses (CLPNA, CLPNBC, etc.).

Your would contact them, or a college that educates Practical Nurses for the information on where to write the exam.

Canadian nurses have no idea of what the rate of pay is any US state. Perhaps you should try posting on the board for the state you want info on?

The information you quoted in your post is completely inaccurate.

The only province which calls PNs, Registered Practical Nurses is Ontario. In the remainder of the country, they are LPNs.

Our exam is a national exam which is written on scheduled dates. Unlike the American exam you cannot pick a date.

Once the exam is written it is valid across the country. You just need to apply for a license in each province. It is not an inexpensive thing to do. The exam costs over $460 and will give you your initial licence in the province in which it was written. If you chose to relocate you submit your details to the provincial CLPN and request a licence there and pay another fee.

You need to decide where you want to live and work before writing the exam. We are a very large country made up of very large provinces.
