cdn educated in us..returning to canada?

I am a Cdn, with my RRT degree, currently applying for BS Nursing at UCF. Upon graduation and after 1 year of OPT, I will be returning to Canada. Both my RRT and my BSN degree were/will be obtained in Florida.

What would the procedure be for me as a Cadn citizen regarding any exams I might need to take. I am from Ontario, and would probably be returning there, if not there then Alberta. Also, if I wanted to remain in US, would I be eligible to apply for a TN visa?

Im an F1 Student.

Thanks for any information.

If you access the College of Nurses website for the province that you plan to move to, you will find what you need. Also, did you check out the Canadian forum here? Lots of answers there, too.

If you are currently an F-1 student at the University of Central Florida, you can apply for practical training upon graduation. This should go for about one year. Contact your foreign student adviser on campus for the details.

If you wish to remain in the United States after your practical training, you'll need to apply for permanent residency - an 1-551 or 'green card' - once you've found a place to work that will help you complete all of the occupational and certification requirements with USCIS (Formerly INS).

Be warned, this can take some time so get started early!

For more information you can visit the USCIS website:

www.uscis.gov

I hope this helps!

You have already mentioned the OPT, so you are aware of that training that is available to you. But as a Canadian, you do qualify for the TN Visa, so would start that as soon as you can get the documents together that you will need such as passing of the NCLEX-RN exam as well as the Visa Screen Certificate.

For returning to Canada to work, you will be treated as a foreign grad and need to meet the requirements for the province where you wish licensure.

Thread moved to the International Forum since it is specific to licensure issues and that is where we ask that questions of this nature be placed and not on the Canadian forum.

There is already much on the licensure requirements for both Florida as well as Canada.

Best of luck to you.
