can recent grads take foreign exams this early?

hi everyone,

i am a recent graduate of a BSN degree and have passed the locen RN licensure. I have set my eye in working in illinois, since i have relative already living in that area but since a petition would take decades. They have advised me to take the CGFNS exam and since the BON of illinois have announced that there is no need for an CGFNS certification exam, instead a CGFNS CES Report is needed.

Anyway, i was wondering being a newly graduate can i take or apply for CGFNS exam/CES Report as early as say, tomorrow or next week? i am quite in a dilemma wheter i work first or i take/apply for CGFNS first?

any filipino nurses who done either of the process? or any nationality who done either of the process?

hoping for an answer regarding this.. thank you all for reading and have a good day.

My friend had just recently passed the local NLEs, she is now considering taking the CGFNS CP exams....heres the rub, she still does not have her PRC nursing license...hence no license number...registration for the said license will only start on Aug 15 06. She is trying to beat the Aug 09 06 application deadline for the Nov 8 06 CP examinations. The question is...will CGFNS accept or entertain her application without a RN license number? "someone" "told" me that a certification from the PRC will suffice for the time being until a number is issued to her. I know the answer is kinda obvious but.....any insights or suggestions?

Thanks!

CGFNS exam requires that verification of having a license in the home country ber submitted before they will okay a date for the exam. Which means that if the license is not sumbitted before the ynext cut-off date and received in PA before that date, then the person will not be able to sit for the exam this fall, and will need to wait until the next exam time. You can apply now, but it will not speed anything up. They will not release anything without the license number being given to them.

She will need to have PRC submit verification to CGFNS, they will not accept it from her.

For the CES report, if you have taken the local exam, you still must submit documentation of that exam/license before the CES will be released. You need to wait until you have a license number before they can release anything.

If your set on Illinois then just apply for the CES and the TOEFL. Those two are the req'ts. No need for the CG exam/CP. And yes, you can apply for the CES as soon as possible. You only need a complete set of transcript for the CES.

Regarding the license from PRC. You don't have to wait for the hard license (card). Once you register at PRC, that's your license # (registration #) already and that # is what is only needed. Let them fill up the License Validation Form (part of CES) and let them send it to CGFNS (address at back of the form). That's it. Of course you have to send your personal application (and fee) and let your school send your TORs to CGFNS. All 3 should be done seperately. After CGFNS completes their CES report they will send it to IDPR ( http://www.idfpr.com/dpr/default.asp)

Check out this link for further details: http://www.cgfns.org/sections/faqs/ces.shtml

Also, check w/ IDPR if they will accept the IELTS already instead of the TOEFL. Visit their website.

ubermench, i almost did that step, and im glad i didn't pursue.

thanks suzanne for the info.

lawrence, hi thanks for the reply. i have visited the website for CGFNS before i have posted in this site. unfortunately, it didn't state whether there is a deadline for filling for the CES. do you or anyone know if CES application can be done at anytime of the year? no specific dates for submission?

sorry, i'm such a newb regarding this CES, my mum who took the CGFNS exam way back (2 decades ago) forgot everything about the process for taking CGFNS, though i bet the process for CES and the certification exam would still be basically the same except that i would not be sitting for an exam.. right?

so what can you/anyone advice me to do right now, it would still take me roughly 20days till i get a licence # from PRC... can i like request for the application form for CES now and fill it up and wait till 15th of aug to send it? when do i pay the CES Fee?

lastly can i take the TOEFL, even without the CGFNS CES done first, since i would not rather waste time sitting at home letting time slip by..

i'm so sorry for bombarding everyone with many questions.. i would really appreciate if anyone would answer... its been mind boggling reading all info about CGFNS, TOEFL, NCLEX.. it seem this would be the only way for me to verify my thoughts..

thanks everyone! have a nice day!

You can apply for the CES anytime since it's just an evaluation report base on your TOR and license and yes you can apply for TOEFL series right now so that you won't waste time. Try contacting IDPR or ask one of your relatives in Illinois to phone them to ask if they will accept IELTS already because some foreign RNs prefer it. Not to mention more affordable. Don't rely too much on what is posted on websites because it takes time to update info.

You can download the CES Handbook and print out all the Forms. It doesn't have to be original what matters is what is written on the forms. However, if you want to have the original ones (including the Handbook) you can get it for FREE. I got mine on their "satellite office" in Shaw Blvd. I'm not sure if it's still their though. The name is Octonorm, same bldg. w/ Nippon Life Insurance (Red Signage). It's very small and you might miss it so look for the Insurance Office instead. It is just a few meters from Star Mall Shaw Blvd. and on the same side of the road. Hope it's still there. You can get a copy of the Visascreen Forms and it's Handbook while you're there. They only give 1 copy each and you have to be physically present there so you cannot get multiple copies for friends.
