Can psychiatric nurses trained in Britain work in USA

I am an RN (Mental Health) having completed the project 2000 course in 1997. This course consisted of eighteen months generic nursing, including general medical, elderly, paeds etc and a further eighteen months in psychiatry. I have since worked in psychiatry and currently a band 6 (grade G/sister) working in Child and Adolescent Psychiatry.

I seem to have conflicting advice regarding working in states. According to the CGFNS website it would appear that only General trained nurses can get registered in states, however some advice online has suggested that I could get my first eigtheen months of education and practice assessed to see if I have enough theory and practice in general nursing.

can anyone clarify?
