Can a MD take the NCLEX?

Hi to all!

Can you help me with this. I am an nurse working in Dallas, TX. My boyfriend is a doctor in the philippines. Can he take the NCLEX and work in the US as a nurse? Thank you for all the inputs and suggestions.

John

Nope, sorry. Although it is common for MDs from the Philippines and elsewhere to come here to work as nurses, they must first graduate from a nursing school that qualifies them to apply for the NCLEX.

Nursing school is different from medical school.

True, in terms of training, they're both different matters. Plus, they need to have the required related learning experience to qualify .... it was never easy , but sure was fun for me .... i remember the days .......

If he completes a second courser program, then yes, he can write the NCLEX-RN exam. Any that wish to write that exam must complete a program in an approved school of nursing.

Every physician that is working as an RN in the US has completed a program before they will be permitted to sit for that exam. Without the actual schooling, no way.

Thread moved to the International Forum, it is specific to foreign-trained nurses.
