CALIFORNIA BON

by piquant

Hi! I don’t know if this is the right thread. I have a question regarding my pending document from DCA CALIFORNIA BON for my Nclex eligibility. I was lucky I got a reply from them 1 month after I mailed my documents, however, it was a letter stating I am required to send them – ‘A COPY OF YOUR LICENSE FROM YOUR COUNTRY WHERE YOU COMPLETED YOUR INITIAL NURSING EDUACTION WITH ENGLISH TRANSLATION’. In my letter of explanation, I told them I didn’t have the license yet bec. I was still waiting for the results to come out. I will be having my hard license probably on September.
If I will submit a copy of my license, does that mean I need to send them an authenticated photocopy of my license or do you think a plain photocopy of the license and maybe a photocopy of the board certificate will suffice? Thanks for your help!

You can not send them a copy it has to come from the board (as far as I am aware) If they do except a copy I would image they want it notorized

Just hang on to the California BON's letter. When your license comes through, just send them a copy of your new license. It does not have to come from your BON.

Why Califoriia? When you pass NCLEx with Cali BON authorization, you do not get the Cali license until you have a social security number. With visa retrogression, that might not be happening anytime soon. Why not go with a compact state? One license gets you priviledges in 22-states. But more important, you get a physical license. You can adjust status to California is you want.

Best compact states to apply for ATT are: Vermont and Arkansas.

Cheers!

To benefit from compact you need to actually be a permanent resident in one of them states. As a foreign nurse compact state is useless until in the US and living in one of the states. Also if you move residence you have to apply for a license. Example if you live in Arizona and sell your house and move to Maryland and buy a new house then you have to get a Maryland license and meet their requirements. Compact will not work as your primary residence is no longer in Az

Wrong. We have 74 compact states licenses for our foreign nurses, none pf whom have ever stepped foot in America.

It is clear you need to live in the state.

What determines primary residency for licensure purposes in the Nurse Licensure Compact?

"Primary state of residence" is defined by the compact as "the state of a person's declared fixed permanent and principal home or domicile for legal purposes." Evidence of a primary state of residence may be required. Sources used as evidence include, but are not limited to, driver’s license, federal income tax return, military payroll documents, and voter registration. If you declare a change in your permanent residence from another compact state, you have 30 days to obtain a license in that state.

How can a foreign nurse have any of the documentation?

Also Habla what kind of nursing do you practice ? You have not mentioned that in any of your posts?

How can you "have " another nurse's license. I was under the impression a license is issue to a nurse not a group.

Thanks Silverdragon! I'll have it authenticated then!

When I applied for California, I didnt know that it could pose a problem since theyre only giving us 3yrs to provide them with SSN and with the retrogression some says it could take more than 5 yrs. But I understand that we could request for an extension through email which is good enough. I just dont know how many years are we allowed to request for that extension...

If in doubt and worried that extension may be delayed or denied it may be worth considering for peace of mind applying for licensure to another state and where file will not be destroyed. Wait and see how things move

I am a nurse by training, but I own a staffing company peopled by foreign nurses. We do all the licensure paperwork and the licenses come to us, since we are the employers and paid for them. Our 74, who are a ground in the PI due to visa retrogression, are licensed in 2 states which happen to be compact states. Those states are Vermont and Arkansas.

Silverdragon, why don't you concentrate on Canada and UK licensure since you have never been through U.S. licensure. My company has licensed over 600 foreign nurses in America. Match those numbers then start speaking on American licensure.

Sorry but I have been through US licensure for 2 states and know all about the paperwork. I too was caught up with retrogression and had a PD of 2006. To be able to use compact state privileges you need to be a permanent resident of the state and if your employees are not in the US due to retrogression then they do not meet requirements for compact What bit of this does your employees meet the state of a person's declared fixed permanent and principal home or domicile for legal purposes
