CA to NY endoresing NLCEX-RN Result; NY Minimum Wage?

by mark22

I already have NCLEX-RN registred to CA, I want it to move to New York. Does New York would require me Credential Verification Service for New York State? Also. I already have my Visa Screen And IELTS. How much is the minimum wage/hr in NY? would $26.75 (for MS-ICU Nurse)makes me survive in such expensive city?

I need your opinion, I am about to sign a contract. But it bothers me much, Coz, They dont reimburse my expenses in licensure and VS/IELTS and little benefits, unlike other employer

Yes to meet NY requirements you have to have CVS done even when endorsing your license. Saying that you will not have a license in Ca as they will not issue one without a SSN which you will not get until in the US on a valid work visa

$26.75 is nothing for NY. I think even new grads there start at $35+. Agencies pay more.

The NEW YORK STATE MINIMUM WAGE LAWS

MINIMUM WAGE ACT (GENERAL EMPLOYMENT)

The General Industry Minimum Wage Act states that all employees in New York State, including most domestic workers, must be paid at least $7.15 per hour beginning January 1, 2007. That is all the State is required to pay anyone.

The US in under retrogression, if you got a VISA, which you would have had to applied for years ago and found and employer they have to pay what a person with your experience has.

Thanks. maybe 26.75 would be OK for international/foreign trained nurse to get to US. since the employer would expense all.. not all, some fees for immigration, attorney, and alike. am i correct?

Health insurance is a killer, for a single person plan about $5-6 K a year. If your employer doesn't provide you'll have to purchase it.

the employer offered this, "• EMPLOYEE SHALL BE ENTITLED TO FREE TERM LIFE INSURANCE COVERAGE, PROVIDED EMPLOYEE IS INSURABLE AT REGULAR RATES"

In my opinion the rate is too low, and I don't understand why they offer you a rate allready when it's not even sure when you can start to work. Much can happen in a year or more. Who knows how much you should earn in a couple of years, could easily be 10 $ more.
Your CVS can take up to a year alone, than the State Board has to assess your education. That might take some time as well.

So they only offer you life insurance, and only if you can be insured for a "normal rate" whatever that is. That means no healthinsurance, not even copay. That's bad.

I wouldn't sign it.

Sorry, but that rate will not get approval in a contract when submitted. It is about a 1/3 less than the going rate in the area.

The US government does not go on what would be considered okay for a foreign nurse, the nurse is supposed to be getting paid the same as the American nurses. And this is going to change considerably in the next few years.

But if that is the rate that would be submitted for you at this time, more than likely it will not be approved. And it should not in my opinion.

Also where are they going to be placing you? You also need to understand if the place where they are placing you is not in business when you get a chance at the visa, then everything gets cancelled by the US government and you start all over. There is no way for them to guarantee that they will have work for you five years plus from now.
