CA-NCLEX expires this December!

There is no such thing as an extension of the NCLEX exam results since they do not expire. What does expire is the three years that you have to provide them with a SSN#.

CA has a rule in place that your application is only valid for three years after you pass the NCLEX exam taken for them as they do not issue a license without the required SSN#. And with the retrogression in place right now, they are not going to extend this three years for any significant length of time.

I would highly recommend that you have them forward your NCLEX passing to another state that will issue a license without a SSN#. Since you cannot endorse since there is no license number, you will need to apply for License by Examination and then just have the score sent on for you. This will give you peace of mind as they are not going to wait it out for the retrogression to be over.

Then you do not need to worry and can just endorse the license that you will get back to CA when you are ready to begin working there.

And rules can always change with a BON, or BRN as they have in CA.
Definitely recommend getting a license in another state now to play it safe and secure for you.

HI suzanne, i have the same problem as well. My NCLEX will expire soon and i need to get a hard license.. what state can you recommend that will give me a hard license? does CT issue a license? My job offer is in CT, i was planning to have my license to be endorsed in CT once i get to the U.S. But since it is retrogression eventhough my case was completed in 2006, i was thinking to be endorsed to the state which can give me a license, what state can you recommend?

CT actually has more requirements than CA, check their website out and they do not issue a license without a SSN# either.

The issue is to get CA to forward your passing score to a state that issues a license before your file gets destroyed.

VT, NM, AZ are a few. CT also has other requirements before they will even permit you to endorse to them, suggest that you check the requirements out to be able to endorse to them later on.

Hi! I have the same problem here.... though I took Suzanne's advice of asking CA bon to transfer results in VT where I simultaneously sent an application.... I have sent these docs last week and my CA application will expire Jan 20.... I sent payment of $60 check to CA Bon for the transfer, and I also sent them an email 2 weeks ago but they haven't answered my emails.... Will I be alright? will I make it in time?

hi there! the information i am reading is here is truly useful.. mine will be expiring in a year's time and i passed nclex in california too. so, i really have to forward my scores to another state while retro is ongoing..

to ms suzanne and other moderators: what is the best state to forward my score with regard to easier processing between CA-BON and the other state BON? I am also concerned that when retro will be over in the future, it would also be easy to endorse back to CA..

VT, NM or AZ? (please consider less expensive processing fees)

It is never a problem to endorse back to CA in the future once you have a valid SSN# and are in the US and ready to begin work.

All of the costs for licensure are quite similar between states that issue a hard license, you just need to make the final decision as to which one. One is not really better over the other.

And for others that are reading this thread, this is a major reason that I do not recommend CA for initial licensure as well as the fact that you need to wait at least a month for snail mail to get to you with your results of the exam. You are not issued a license by CA until they have the SSN#, so therefore cannot consider yourself a US RN either, as there is no license.
