Aussies in USA on E3

by susieok

hi... i came across the last post re E3 visa after it had been shutdown.

i really would like some more info on the Aussie nurses who are using the E3 visa to work in the USA. i have contacted a few hospitals in Colorado and they are saying the same thing to me... that although it is preferred to have a bachelors degree/BSN, it is not a necessity. in the E3 visa outlines, it states the employer must want a bachelors degree.

how have you got around this situation? any other tips? how long did the process take from applying to the hospital to heading over to work?

also.. in regard to the last thread... i am NOT interested in the green card... would just like to live in the states for a few years and the E3 visa sounds ideal.

Thanks

As mentioned in PM, my position does require a bachelor degree as it's a specialty position (a requirement of the visa). My employing hospital wanted my specific skills, so they were willing to work with me to get it done.

I had no issues at the visa interview as to my qualifications for the position.

It took quite a long time, but that was more dealing with a large corporation's HR and legal departments (48000 employees!) which moved verrrr-rrr-rr-yyyy slowly....

Once I had the job offer letter from the hospital and the LCA forms, I was able to get the interview/visa/and get to the US within a month.

Do you have any specialty qualifications?

The only other thing I can think of is that some hospitals require all RNs to have a bachelor degree - those places would fit the E3 requirements. The one I am thinking of is University of Pennsylvania in Philly, but I'm sure there are others.

The E-3 visa is specific to those from Australia and there alone. We see many employers not being aware of the specific requirements for it.

My employer had no knowledge of it, but they were very happy about it, since it costs them nothing!

You don't need either for an E3. If you want to show equivalency, I'd just get an evaluation from someone like The Trustforte Corporation, about $100 and very fast.

CES i usually a requirement of the BON so if they require if as a foreign trained nurse then you need to get it
