by maury

Im from Philippines and i just migrated here in Texas and im gonna have my SSN# in one more month but since the BON here in Texas ask a lot of requirements i planned to take my NCLEX in CALIFORNIA BON.
MY question is ....what is the first step to apply for NCLEX .Do i have to register to NCSBN first then wait how many months to apply for the BON in California.
Please tell me step by step...hoping for every ones reply.

Sorry but even for endorsing you are going to have to meet Texas requirements so much better to go with them from the start, save some money. You will need CES from CGFNS and then once your application for licensure has been assessed they will give you permission to sit the NCLEX. You are still looking at a few months whilst you are going through the process before sitting the exam

you are not taking the CGFNS exam but need the credential report which is CES. Saying that if you go and move to a state and they require CGFNS exam because you are still classed as a foreign trained nurse then you have to do it.

Just because you are already in the states makes no difference you will always be treated as a foreign trained nurse

Even if you go to another state for initial licensure ie CA you are going to need CES from CGFNS to endorse to Texas. This will cost you both money and time. If you are living in Texas then I would recommend that you follow Texas requirements from the start which will probably be cheaper in the long run.

The first question you have to ask yourself is where do you intend to work? If you would rather transfer to california then go ahead and apply for licensure there. But if you like to stay in Texas it is better for you to apply for licensure there and meet their requirements than to apply for endorsement. Which will only cost you more time and money as Silverdragon102 has stated because you still have to meet all requirements of the BON as a foreign educated nurse.

Step 1
Go to the website of your preferred state and see the requirements needed for licensure.

Step 2
Download or request application packet from the BON you prefer.

Step 3
Fill out application packet and complete all needed requirements (fingerprint card, transcripts etc...) and submit to BON

Step 4
Wait for your eligibility

Step 5
Once made eligible you can register to Pearson Vue and schedule your exam.

Good luck.

As we have mentioned in several other threads to you, if you are actually going to work in Texas, you are going to need to follow their requirements. If not going to work in CA, then you are just throwing out that money and for no reason.

If one already decided to work and live in a specific State, it is always better to apply directly than apply to one State then endorse because you will end up paying more fees and wasting time since the State you are endorsing to will still require the same requirements plus there are endorsement fees coming from the 1st State to endorse to the 2nd state. You will just be going in circles. These are one of those things that it's better to go direct than to take so-called 'short-cuts'.

Ever made a so-called 'short-cut' on the road to save gas and ended up getting to the destination longer than the usual? This is an example of it, in my honest opinion.
