hi everyone.

i graduated last year as a student nurse. after i graduate i went back to california because i know that california doesn't require for applicants to be license nurses in their respective countries but i applied last january and recieved a letter from cali board of nursing that asks me to write or tell PRC to write them back (the ca brn) as to why i was exempted from taking the boards in the philippines. im really worried about this because im not even affiliated with the prc and afraid the the prc will not write a letter back to them.

here is the exact phrase
"applicants from the Philippines will need to contact the Professional Regulations Commission and request for documaentation to be sent directly to the Board as to why you were exempt from being ablt to sit for the licensing examination for nurses in the Philippines. "

is there anyone with the same situation as me? thanks.

Are you actually a US citizen, or are you a green card holder?

If you are a US citizen and hold a US passport, then you are exempt from the exam as you are not permitted to write it.

If you are a green card holder, then the exemption does not apply to you as you are still a citizen of the Philippines and need to meet any requirements that citizens need to comply with.

You may write to the BRN and tell them that you did not write the exam as you had no intention of working there, but it will be up to them to make a decision on this.

CA has started to become very strict on this and do not know why you did not include a letter when you sent your application in the first place.

Since this thread has to do with licensure in the US and not actually working in the Philippines, moving this to the International Forum where it is more appropriate. Also suggest that you take the time to do some reading on that forum for information that you truly need to be aware of.

we have the same situation nd its so frustrating nd sad.. i still dnt have my eligiblity.nd i dont know what to do now...

Please do not use text messaging here, most of the readers are international and do not always know the abbreviations as well as most of them are required to pass a language exam to come here and this is the best place to practice.

You have to remember that one always needs to meet the requirements of the licensing board that they are applying thru, the BRN does not neet to meet yours since they are the ones that will be issuing a license.

And it has actually been a requirement that the local license be completed, but they were not as strict on this in the past. However, there have been multiple issues with this so they have decided to tighten up things and they have every right to do so.

And we are also seeing more and more states require the local license as they did in the past when the CGFNS exam was required. If you have received a letter from them that you need to pass the local license, then that is what you are going to need to do.

They make the final decision.

Ive noticed that you were born and raised in the PI, but are your parents Filipino? Philippine government follows the jus sanguinis or the bloodline rule. If they are Filipino by the time you were born, then you are eligible to take the NLE, and should take it if you want to apply for Ca.

Anyway, you can try to go to the legal department of PRC and bring your birth certificate in hand. Try do just what Ca BON said to you:

Ask them to seal the envelope and address it to CA BON. (Bring the adress with with you so you wont be bothered later)

If PRC gives you this, then you might be saved from trouble, but it all really depends on CA BON.

hi everyone. CA- BON asked me to provide them with copies of my immigration papers. i have now recieved my elegibility

woot woot!
i am applying for an exam now and hoping to get my att soon. now i have to focus on my studies.
i decided to quit my job and my last day is tomorrow. i'll focus everything on my review. i am planning to take it on september.

guys, i am not sure for my fellow Filipino who has not taken their NLE on how they can have an eligibily. If they can't provide immigration papers then they might have a problem.
CA BON is really strict now.

my sister applied for a retake application to CA BON last Dec 2007. (it will be her 3rd take)
up to this time, she did not received any eligibility letter and all she receives is a reimbursement cheques of the NCLEX fees stating in the form that it is an excess of the application fees.
she paid the exact amount indicated and is wondering why BON is returning such fees.
any comment on this?
another thing is, her last exam date was july 2007. applied a retake dec 2007(but has not receive any letter of eligibility from BON despite efforts of calling and sending them emails.)
this is the month of july and her file is already a year with BON. is there a chance that BON will destroy such file if an applicant did not reapply within one year? or is there a time frame when a file in the BON be valied or not?
and can she apply thru pearson vue despite the unavailability of the eligibility letter?
any replies would be much appreciated. thank you.
