Am I to blame for being HBV positive?

by bighe

I am a nurse here in the philippines, recently i found out that I have hepatitis B...and positive. I"ts not my fault that I have it... I wish to work abroad to earn and practice my profession there.I feel discriminated now because once i ask the agencies i apply to if they hire nurses who are hepatitis B positive, they say they don't hire "US".Is this the end of my dreams to work abroad?is this the end of my profession?

Is it mandatory to disclose your medical condition? Universal precautions are still in play, and if your doctor does not DX you as acutely infectious, but maybe as a carrier, talk to him/her about that and proceed from there.

Good Luck, stay safe.

Your concern is understandable. Contracting a disease is nobody's fault, and nobody does it knowingly.
The employers say they don't discriminate against anybody, however, where ever I went for job, all my employers made sure that they tested my blood for HBV and immunity before hiring me (they offered the job on two conditions- if you are determined eligible after background check and health check up). I don't know why they test for HBV if they were to hire someone with it.
