Advice required for Australian going the E3 path

Hi,

My CES report was finally issued after 12 months of delays. CGFNS states that my 3 Year Bachelor of Nursing Degree is equivalent to a (first level) trained Nurse or 3 year diploma and my diploma of midwifery is equivalent to a certificate of midwifery in the U.S. I have completed all the required degree content areas in med/surg, mental health, obs, ped, etc in 1993 but I didn't study subjects as 'humanities'.

My concern relates to when applying for jobs with hospitals that require a BSN my CES report will not show BSN equivalence. At this stage I am planning on taking the NCLEX through Vermont BON after approval and plan to work in Labor and Delivery or similar in early 2013. I have 14 years experience as a Registered Midwife in Australia and 6 years general nursing prior to that. If Ghilbert could give my some light on this subject that would be much appreciated. Should I be contacting CGFNS to enquire to why they didn't equate my Degree to a BSN or not worry about it?

thanks

thanks for you information

Tell me about yourself, where are you from and where are you working?

I am a nurse currently in the UK but I have sponsorship to move to the USA just awaiting visa allocation for EB3 I took and passed my nclex in 2009 through the state of Vermont. The dog is a collie he's got a extremely big character lol.

A lot of states are now asking for a SSN you would properly be best contacting Hawaii BON and asking if you can go through the process of taking NCLEX and if you pass and meet all the requirements they will give the license once you have supplied a SSN (this can be once you have moved to the state) . This can sometimes be later but some the boards I wanting SSN to apply.

Can I ask are you planning on working and living in Hawaii ?

yes I was hoping however open to any work really in the USA - just felt safe and know my children would settle in well there plus only 10 hours by plane to Australia if I needed to get back quickly as I have elderly family here in Aus - are you from Aus? - I believe one can sit the NCLEX in Sydney too

It just seems conflicting information as some people advise to get BON rego first which then gives you a letter (Authority to test letter - ATT) to then allow you to sit the NCLEX - I am just tyring to get the process right in my head - I was then also told I can't apply for my E3 visa without my USA Nursing Rego (is this the same rego you receive when you apply to a BON State in America - like Hawaii or Vermont or Philli)? as you can see I am still a bit confused

Also have you been through CGFNS process - if so who did you put down as your receiving Amercian State regarding your application - I have put Hawaii however wonder if I should list others also - maybe this is not possible to put multiple -

I am about to hit the application process payment for the CGFNS and hope I have included all I need

Happy for any information - where in the UK are you ? and what area do you nurse in ?

So is your visa the EB3 the same as the E3 ?

cheers

much appreciated

I think you can put a couple of states down but really put down the state you plan on doing initial requirements with.

You will not get your ATT until you meet state BON requirements and only then will you get the OK to sit NCLEX. Once you meet requirements you need to get vsc (visa screen certificate) and then look for employer and apply for E3

You need to apply for initial US licensure to a state that issues licenses without having a SSN, because you can't get one of those without a working visa in hand, and you can't get one of those without a job. It's confusing and circuitous, but you have to follow the steps one by one. When you say you hope to "pass" CGFNS - did you apply for the exam, or just for the evaluation of your transcripts?

Steps I did:

- Apply to CFNS for the CES course by course evaluation of my transcripts and australian license

- Apply to Vermont BON for licensure

- Get ATT for NCLEX from Vermont BON

- Sit NCLEX in Sydney

- Passed and had RN license number appear on Vermont BON website

- Apply to Pennsylvania BON (where I wanted to work) for licensure by endorsement from Vermont

- Get PA license in hand (still didn't have SSN but they issued and I just had to send it in when I got it)

- Apply to CGFNS for Visa Screen Certificate

- Got a job offer and got my E3 visa in Melbourne (taking copies of my US nursing license and VSC)

- Arrive in US and take my visa to SS office and get SSN

- Send SSN in to PA BON

Thank you everyone for the information on working in the USA on an E3 Visa - you have given me hope! I am an Australian RN with a Bachelor of Nursing and Postgraduate Diploma in Midwifery and have 14 years experience. I hold a current NY license. Can anyone give me the names of any hospitals which will sponsor RN's for an E3 visa? Any info is appreciated. Cheers.

I don't think there are names of hospitals but more a case of talking to hospitals you are interested in. May also have to explain to the how E3 works
