what's available for a new grad in iv nursing?

by mwcrsn

I will graduate in may with an ADN in northern CA. i absolutely love iv's, and am pretty interested in trying to get on with an outpatient oncology infusion office. curious, what other areas could i go into for the experience? i'm sure i will need lots of iv experience before i can land the onc infusion job, so what are some options, with iv's in mind? i'm not interested in med-surg at all. what about a blood bank type position, or other areas i would start lots of iv's? thanks for any advice.

I think they would want you to have acute care experience in out-patient infusion as your patients will require monitoring. Consider Same day Surgery as they start IV 's on every patient. The ER generally does a lot of IV's on all sorts of patients so that is a good area too.
