PICCs / LPN assistant

by Rexie68

Hello to all! I'm new to the world of the IV team (vascular access nurses as we're now called) and am wondering about LPNs as the assistant to an RN during PICC placement. One of our RNs has the LPN do the initial "poke" to access the vein, since she is uncomfortable using the ultrasound. Is this acceptable? Most of the RNs have the LPN assist with set up and draping and then get sterile to assist by trimming the PICC and handing things to the RN. Our LPNs do start peripheral IVs but aren't permitted to insert anything central (per state regs). Any input?? Thank you!
