Has anyone had a pt leak serious fluid from a picc site within 24 hours of insertion?
pt has lymphedema. I suspected lymph fluid but was unable to test for sugar .
Yes....You will need to monitor it very closely. If the insertion site does not heal and it continues to leak it is most likely lymph fluid. You will need to replace it because it will continue to ooze and stay moist and that is not acceptable.Every once in awhile we have a case like this and nothing we tried resolved it but removing and replacing PICC at a new site.
Thank you so much. Yes , we replaced it and the pt did fine. I've been placing Picc lines for over 20 years. A first!
You are correct it does not happen very often.I have been placing PICCs since 1989 and I have seen it about 6 or 7 times. We even tried Stat Seal and that did not work.
