Long infusions in home...

I have a question for those of you who do long infusions in the home...what in the world do you do to keep yourself busy! Last week I had a man having 6 hour IVIG infusions for 4 days straight...needless to say I caught up on all my charting the first day and I was bored out of my mind the rest! I'd love to hear the stories of others!

I do a lot of long infusions. Where I work we are all given wireless laptops. All of our charting is done online. We dont even use paper charts. Needless to say... I am kept very occuiped by looking up things on the internet. Sometime(most of the time) my patients are lonely and end up talking the WHOLE time. Yes the whole time. I have learned soooo much about people and their families. I have learned how they grew up and the people that they have meet and love ones that were lost much to soon. I am very interested in people and how we think that the time seems to slip away fast. It also helps that I am in school so the people that dont talk a lot allow me to study..

Yes I do have the same situation......I usually range from 2-6 hrs per infusion of the IVIG..depends upon how many grams and the brand of course. The frequent vitals keeps me busy..then i organize their supplies and take an inventory of the supplies and if it is a recertification..that always takes more time. I always seem to get the talkers as well. If it is a really long infusion.my patient and I sometimes watch a movie or a show. My patients often will sleep after they get their benadryl pre-med so I will have several magazines with me as well
