IV push Med procedure

  1. 0 I am researching what most effective way is to give IV push Meds when you have a running IV. Do you need to flush port on tubing before and after med? Do you need to pinch off tubing? Thanks

Well, is the IVP med that you are infusing compatible with the mainline fluids? If not, then you must pinch off, flush, give the IVP med, flush again with a compatible flush solution, then restart the primary.

Well if the mainline solution is compatible is it neccessary to pinch off tubing?

Crimping off the tubing prevents retrograde of the IVP medication up the IV tubing and will therefore deliver the medication in the time frame you specificied.
