Like the others said, our newest mods are fantastic. How to become a mod? Well Brian and the admins reviewyour background, posts........administration members discuss......many factors involved. And sorry no employment involved. Just voluntary good will and fun. Oh and some super allnurses ballpoint pens every now and again.
  3. I just got to this thread after learning my role as a Mod. Let me say first, Thank You for the Warm Welcome.

Siri and P_RN are most correct regarding the choice of new Mods...many factors involved. I would like to add that maybe as the board grows and becomes more complex, new Mods are needed. Makes sense. The need has to be present first. Next, who are the likely candidates? In ways it depends upon how one presents oneself on the board, if supportive to other members, follows TOS guidelines, and has some clinical/technical ability. But, much is discussed when the time for adding new Mods presents itself. I hope this helps a little.

    Again, Thanks for the Welcome.

I too appreciate the kind words:hatparty:

I've discovered that being a mod is a lot like being a nurse: it's often thankless, sometimes it makes us unpopular, and no one really notices what we do unless we don't do it!:chuckle

Moderating has taught me some valuable lessons, though, one of the most important being this: while I may hold opinions on virtually every topic, the world does NOT always have to be subjected to them. The trick is knowing how to pick my battles, when to take a stand, how to target an appropriate audience.......and when I need to just SHUT UP. :spin:

    Thanks again for the day-brightener!

The hardest lesson I've learned is when to "shut up", and let the members "duke it out". If you intervene too early, they just get mad @ you.

How true. How true. Many a mod has gotten wind of my wrath for closing threads too early.
Then again the more sensitive members will complain when you don't close them down quick enough.

I imagine it's hard to step out of your own opinion as well.

What's the most difficult for me is when a topic comes up as a new thread that has just been closed b/o it got too hot, or that was recently argued for >10 pages, even peacefully, or one of those "here we go again" things.

And I don't go to Current Events very often. Tough place, esp if you get hot flashes anyway.
