what exactly does an infectious disease nurse do?

so i am a few semesters away from even starting nursing school but some nursing specialties that interest me are surgical, pediatrics, and infectious diseases...i was just wondering what it is that infectious disease nurses actually do? do they just care for patients? i read somewhere that they are involved in research? sorry if this seems like a stupid question...i am still learning! lol thanks!

Default Re: what exactly does an infectious disease nurse do?
Infectious disease nurses can work in a number of capacities. They can work in research, as you said. They can work in clinics where the focus is public health. They can work on units in the hospital designated as infectious disease units (some hospitals have these, some don't). There also exists the possibility of working in home health, as well as abroad. So not really a limit on possibilities there. Hope this helps.
