Tracking employee illness

I would like to know how other facilities track employee illness. When someone calls in sick is it logged and then given to the Infection Control Coordinator. Our facility is 100 beds. For our State survey we are to show how we track the above.

Most organizations that manage absences do so in Occupational and Environmental Health or HR. The only absences given to the Infectious Disease Coordinator were those absences that triggered those flags. One of my staff or I triaged the cases to go to the appropriate professional, for instances Infectious Disease Coordinator does not and should not see the substance abuse or mental health issues. We also did the notification to the local health departments. This tracking should be done by the individuals also tasked with tracking FMLA and ADA issues to minimize Dept of Labor issues.

The most serious infectious disease absence cases are usually identified during investigation. Since many start out subtly with documentation of abdm pain or swelling, during the investigation you must be sure not to violate Dept of Labor regulations and laws.
