Infectious Disease Nursing School

I am in my first year of nursing school, and I am trying to narrow down my area. I love microbiology and thinking of infectious disease but where would I be able to go for that? I live in Illinois.
I also am looking to midwifery, but I already know that I can go to a couple of places in Chicago for that.

Can anyone help me out?
Thanks

Hi, and welcome to allnurses.com!!

I see that you are in your first yr of nursing school. You don't have to go to any special school to become an infectious disease nurse. With your RN license you can work on an infectious disease floor in most any hospital.

Now, if you are talking about wanting to become a nurse practitioner in the specialty of infectious disease, that is going to take a master's degree and certification as a nurse practitioner (an exam you take after obtaining your master's). Most master's programs require at least a year or two of nursing experience before entry.

Hope this answers some of your question(s).
