Following Isolation Precautions for MRSA in the OR

  1. 0 I am new to the Infection Prevention profession and have recently discovered that our Operating Room has it OWN policy for discontinuing isolation for MDRO's. Our hospital policy is to place patients with a history of MDRO's in isolation with each admission, pending negative cultures. Our OR, on the otherhand, does not place patients with a history of MDRO's in isolation with each subsequent admission. On occasion, patients that have had surgery are admitted to the hospital and subsequently NOT placed in isolation becasue the OR staff has "d/c'd isolation precautions". What type of policies do you have in your hospitals? Does the OR follow a different standard then the rest of the hospital? How do you handle discontinuing isolation for patients with a history of MDRO?

Thank you for any advice you can offer!!
