Information! ISU LPN to BSN program

  1. 0 Hi Denroc72 ,

I am interested in ISU LPN to BSN program and would like information from a student perspective I would like to start phase 2 in January 2014. I noticed you just completed it based on your post. I am about to finish my LPN program and plan to take NCLEX-PN early summer. I already have a bachelor's degree and have all pre-req courses except for Microbiology (based on my review of phase 1).

My main concern is finding preceptors in the Central Florida area- mostly Orlando. Do they help you find preceptors? Or, you have to find the person and they just do the paper work.

Any advice or feedback is appreciated.

    Hi magda81,

There are several locations in Florida you can complete your clinical rotations. You can search the ISU website to determine which locations have a contract already in place with the college or you can "initiate" a contract with an organization if you like (it must be approved by that organization though). I completed most of my rotations with clinical sites that were already under contract with ISU to eliminate the possibility of not securing a site in time for the deadlines set by specific course instructors. It could take up to several months to complete a contract process, so I drove a maximum of 2.5 hours to complete some of my clinicals. I did "initiate" a contract with an organization more locally because that semester I did not want to drive far. I think this was for my community health rotation. You will have to contact these organizations to start the process, but ISU have the contacts' name and telephone numbers listed on its website, and there is an online application you need to complete to "initiate" a contract.

    Hi Denroc72,

Thank you, thank you so much for responding. I really appreciated this. I don’t might traveling 1 or 2 hours either.

I have a few more questions then I will leave you alone:

Were you able to do some of your clinical hours in the weekend?

Approximately how long does phase 3 take?

Were you able to attend classes during the summer semester?

How many classes did you take each term? Were you considered a full time or a part time?

Thanks again for your feedback. I really really appreciated it.

I just started the program and have had my lpn for two years. I took two of the four exams and felt like I was sitting for boards...again. They were VERY difficult! Maybe it was because I haven't had any experience with and haven't touched peds or maternity in over two years. I asked if I could jut take the classes but I was told their program requires a passing challenge exam. The worst part is...other than the cost of the exams....is that if you fail them you have to pay again (expected) AND by the college network CSMs that cost 630.00 EACH. I failed the one by two questions...grrrrrr. One of the questions wouldn't open the picture needed which was a monitor strip pertaining to the question. Not their fault but still counted against me. I wish someone had the material and a packing slip I could get so I wouldn't have to pay full price for them.

Find another organization that will allow you to do your clinical rotation and then begin the application for initiating a contract.

I'm on my last semester of their BSN program. It's a good school...however, locating a clinical site is difficult, unless you're employed at a hospital already. Otherwise, it's been a good experience.

Hi, I am an LPN desperately wanting to finish school to secure my RN, BSN.
My questions: I reside in Va and had been told that they (Va) would not recognize online schooling for the LPN-RN bridge. That I would have to sit for boards in a surrounding state, work in that state for a year then I could request for my license in VA.

Does anyone know anything about this??
Also, how expensive is it, is there any financial assistance? And last, how long will it take?

Thank you anybody who may can answer these!

I am not sure about the logistics with VA and not supporting ISU in that capacity. However, if you look on the Indiana State University Nursing website it notes that VA is accepted. http://www.indstate.edu/lpn-bs/image...isu-lpn-bs.gif

I would double check with your state board of nursing to see what they have to say.

I am an alumni from ISU and to me, it is a great program. I was able to work full-time as an LVN and receive my RN BSN. Cost was very reasonable, which was an added bonus. I paid out of pocket, so I did not utilize any financial assistance. Hope this helps. Best of luck!

Is there anyone out there who has done clincials in South Florida. I ready to start however because I don't see any approved sites for south Florida I'm hesitating if I have sites that I want and ISU can't get a contract how long do I have to find another one.
