I am due to start the LPN-BSN program at Indiana State University in the fall of 2012 and decided to start a thread for fellow students who may be starting around the same time so that we can connect and support each other.

good for you. how are you studying for the exams and what tools are you using? there should be a blog area for each of the challenge exams. blogging about it may reduce the annxiety.

i am assuming you are aiming for fall 2012 at isu.

I am hopin to have all 4 exams done by june also, i am using the tcn study guide. Do u think i should be using some extra material? And about the guide for the exams are you talking about the one u can sse wnats you have paid for the exam?

Yes, the TCN study guides are nothing specia and they are no magic bullet. You still need to study and answer the questions correctlyl. In fact,when I bought the study guides and when I took the test, I noted that there were questions that were never covered in the TCN studyguides.

I don't understand your last sentence. As far as other textbooks--get a good comprehennsive NCLEX RN book. Do the chapters that correspond to the tests and do the questions. Look at the rationales for the questions. I also found Lippincotts Straight A's in _________. It was a good study guide. If you use all three and actually study from them, you should have everything covered.

ISU will send out a sheet discussing the objectives of the test and what you need to review for each test. They will also send out suggestions of books to buy that correspond to the tests. This is free and they should send it out either before or after you pay for the test.

I hope you were able to see the ISU challenge objectives, etc. for the exam you took. You said you were taking one of the exams this weekend. How did it go?

I will b taking it on 21.I am very nervous. I finally got the studyguide and trying to make sure I go over everything.

Hi all, I too am planning for fall of 2012, I have been preparing to take the 106 challenge exam, hopefully will have that done by the beginning of feb. I have read through the other posts, but I am wondering, for those that have the challenge exams done, how where they? Hard? So glad to have this thread available, I am very nervous about doing nursing online.

Hello all! I am currently an LPN for the past 3 years in Pennsylvania. I'm looking to further my education and I am leaning towards the LPN-BSN. Distance Learning tis the best route for me with a infant and a husband in college full time. I have ran through the website quite freqently but still have a few basic questions. Perhaps, I'm just apprehensive as I've never taken a DL course before. I currently only have 12-18 gen eds from prior university enrollment.

Is federal financial aid obtainable for the program (FAFSA)?

What pre reqs are required? Those listed in Phase 1?

Is it best to take the pre reqs at a local college before applying and then transfer them in?

Thanks so much! I'm sure I'll have mroe questions ! Any and all info is very much appreciated!!!

Angela, the challenge tests are equivalent to the final exam for the course. It will cover just about everything in the 50-90 questions. I do not remember how many questions there were on each challenge exam. The first exam was the easiest of the two, and they go up in difficulty. The last was not hard or easy but in the middle.

Is federal financial aid obtainable for the program (FAFSA)? I believe it is but you should give the finance department a call to see if it is available. Some distant learning programs are not eligible for finanncial aid; some universities will give fee waivers to those who do not have a bachelors. However, you will still be able to borrow student loans.

What pre reqs are required? Those listed in Phase 1? I don't remember what phase I is because I went directly to the challenge exams. The prerequisites required are listed on the Indiana State University, LVN to BSN nursing website. It lists the prerequisites for the nursing program, as well as what is required to transfer or apply to Indiana State. Remember, you are first a university student and must take classes gen ed classes to graduate and you are also a nursing department student. As a LPN to BSN student you are required to meet all the prerequisites to enter the program as well as take all the core nursing classes to graduate. If you enter the program and have failed to take specific requirements, the program will not allow you to take more classes until you fulfill the prerequisites for that class.

Is it best to take the pre reqs at a local college before applying and then transfer them in? Yes. A community college's tuition is far less than the university's. Plus, if you fulfill the transfer requirements you may not have to take many additional gen ed classes at ISU. Go to your local community college and talk to a counselor about what is best for you.

Congrats to you, Which one are you planning to take next? I passed 106 too, I think I want to take adult health next, I read up on threads, Peds suppose to be the hardest so Im saving it for last.
