Indiana State University LPN-BSN 2012

Nursing Students Indiana (ISU)

Published

Hello,

I am due to start the LPN-BSN program at Indiana State University in the fall of 2012 and decided to start a thread for fellow students who may be starting around the same time so that we can connect and support each other.

I'm in Maryland ;)

microbiology online as well?

Yes it is also.

Hello everyone. I am in Florida & will be starting the LPN-BSN program on August 21, 2012. I am registered to take N208 & N304. Anyone else taking these same classes? Also I noticed they opened another pathophysiology class. I was looking at taking this in the fall of 2013, but I was wondering if anyone else has taken it through ISU and wanted to know how difficult it is. Also anyone who has taken N208 & N304 have any comments on them? As far as difficulty/workload? Thanks for the info!

Hello everyone, I got accepted to start ISU this coming fall 2012, but I decided to changed until Spring 2013, because I still need to take my 4 challenged courses, my TEAS and my Chemistry class, other than that I will be transferring 78 semesters units to ISU, which will be pretty much the nursing portion of the program. What it worries me now is the clinical sites, since I have read couple of post stating the difficulties in finding a place in where to perform the clinical portions.

I am from southern California, if there is anyone out there applying for the spring semester and is in southern california please feed me with clinical sites you have chosen for the program.

Does anyone know what is the minimun score for the teas test for the LVN-BSN at ISU?

THanks,

MVA, LVN

Hi quike248,

I will be starting next year as well. I am also in S. California. As far as waiting for clinical placement this is my thought I would rather be in this program then have to compete with other students who have a 4.0 at local colleges. To be honest I am feeling very discouraged about being a Nurse in California.

It is ridiculous how hard it is to get into a nursing program. I can understand that they want to make sure you can hang, pass the NCLEX and make their school look good but how about Nurses like my self who have a family, and a 3.2 GPA.

I spoke to someone named Millie a year ago and she was very positive, but I have read other posts of someone in the program who says that they are not going to be able to finish on time.

I guess what I am thinking is this, I was told that the program will take 2 years to complete. I have come to the conclusion that it will maybe take longer then that due to the clinical issue. I now have a goal of completing the program in 3 to 4 years. I hope I can do it faster.

If I go to a local state college It will take anywhere between 4 or 5 years, or I could go to a private college and pay over a 100.000. For me ISU is my best bet.

Blessings,

has anyone heard or tried to get clinicals where they already work if they are working in a hospital?

Hello Inlandnurse,

it is true that about having a hard time becoming a register nurse in California. there are not enough faculty for too many nursing students. I am very positive about Indiana State as well, and I read other posts that the majority of clinical sites are up north and honestly I wouldn't mind to go up north for couple of weeks to finish each area; however, I hope that there are some clinical sites in my local area.

take care,

I can understand your wish to go through a distant learning program rather than being on a wait list for a brick and mortar nursing program, and that it could take you 4-5 years to gradulate from a generic BSN program. Yet, you are being optimistic to believe that it would take you two years to finish the BSN program. Unless you have a bachelors, you will still need to take all the ISU bachelors gen ed classes--over and above the gen ed classes required for the ISU BSN program. There are 6 clinicals and 8 lecture classes, and the Calif BON stated that students can take only one clinical a semester, the quickest you could matriculate through the program would be 2.5 years. If you have to take the bachelor's gen ed classes, add more time. Once you obtain your DARS, you can see how long it might take you to matriculate. However, that does not mean that your classes will be available when you want to take them.

You mentioned that "posts of someone in the program who says that they are not going to be able to finish on time." Some of those posts were from me and based on fact.

has anyone heard or tried to get clinicals where they already work if they are working in a hospital?

Some students have been able to take some clinicals at the facility they work. However, the facility must meet the requirements for the class as well as agree to enter into a contract with ISU and agree to follow the rules/regulations established by ISU. However, one facility does not offer all the clinical requirements for or all classes. You would have to get other clinical placements for those requirements that cannot be met by your facilty.

Hello Inlandnurse,

The issue facing those students in Calif is the mandate by the Calif BON, the shear number of nursing students enrolled in programs, and the space available for nursing students. The problem that ISU has to overcome is there is no clinical instructor at the facility to oversee the student. Facilities tend to shy away from a contract with ISU because it is far easier to work with a local college/university who provides an onsite clinical instructor.

Because Sonma State has clinical facilities in No Cal, supposedly there could be more clinical sites in No Cal. You may be able to do your clinicals up there. Remember that you would need to obtain your patients the day before clinical, work up the care plan that night, and then do your clinical the next day. The require clinical hours vary; as your progress the hours increase. The BON states you can do only so many hours a week so you could be able to be in No Calif 2 days a week and home the rest of the time (saving a day for drive time).

It all just depends on how many credits are transferable. Go to indstate.edu and look at the nursing curriculum for prereqs. You should have enough credits and required credits if you were already in a BSN program. 4 challenge exams and teas is phase 2 and the phase 3 should be 5-6 semesters. This is if you aren't in Cali. which you said you are in NJ.

Hello there, what do you mean when you say " this is if you aren't in cali?" does that mean that the program can be shorter if you are in Cali?

That is why I said that I am giving myself a 3 to 4 year window to get my BSN. You have to be optimistic when you are a nursing student. As long as I am moving towards my goal to become an RN I feel as though I am on track. Are you still going to continue with ISU nursing program? It must feel terrible to have to wait to complete a class. As I promised I will be Vlogging my experience from start to finish. Blessings :)
