Nursing Students Indiana (ISU)
Published Nov 14, 2011
Hello,
I am due to start the LPN-BSN program at Indiana State University in the fall of 2012 and decided to start a thread for fellow students who may be starting around the same time so that we can connect and support each other.

Ladyinscrubs I have not taken my challenge test yet but I am preparing now to take the mental heath exam because I just ordered the book on line on half ebay the one you recommended Straight A's in and so far the book is great. I look forward to your post everyday. I just wanted to know can you recommend any other books that will help me.
If at all possible, get the ISU FREE study guide for the mental health test, which should also provide you with a list of suggested nursing books. The book I suggested a good study guide (not only for this test but for the mental health class that you will take as part of the program). Also, if you can, get a comprehensive RN NCLEX book, one that has subject overviews as well as test/rationales. Take as many tests as you can and make sure you review the rationales. The rationales are important to help you understand the concept behind the question.
The process of studying for the challenge exams is difficult because you are doing it on your own. Just take one chapter at a time and don't think about how much you need to cover. Let us know how you are doing.

Hello, precious4k1
I actually just completed all of my challenge exams today, and I've passed them all (Yaaay).
As LadyInScrubs has said, it is not neccessary to purchase the CSMs from TCN, they are waaaaaayyyy overpriced. I just used ATI, and the text books I already had from school. However, I did just take (and pass) my NCLEX-PN last week Tuesday, so I was sort of studying for both simultaneously.
What part of MD are you in? I live in Baltimore.
Hi, Nora
I finished them all up today. I actually to all four over the course of 2 days. I'm so glad to be done with them!
ATI is a webiste that my PN school used to provide use with tests. I also purhased the ATI mobile app for my cell phone. It alows me to take tests is my free time according to whichever topic I choose and how many questions I want. That was like $20.
ISU doesn't provide you with "study guides" really, they provide you with a syllabus and topical oulines via their blackboard. I guess these are from actual classroom classes. I printed them out and looked through them and used the text books from my PN school to study.
I just graduated PN school in December and took my NCLEX last week, so I did a two for one study special :)

Hello LadyinScrubs.
Do you have any advice for Nursing 328?
I find it really tough! I am currently working on both Peds and Maternity and trying to make it to the June 1st deadline. Maternity is easier to memorize and understand, but PEDS is difficult.

From what you write, I believe you are taking the challenge exam. If you repost a different question and specifically state you are studying for the peds/maternity challenge exam, you may a better response from those who are studying for it or have taken the exam.
From memory, this was the most difficult exam of all 4 challenge exams. As far as what to study, you should have received the official ISU study guide from the nursing department that discusses what must be covered. What I did was go over each objective, I made a list, read the appropriate material, and made notes to accompany the objective. Once I had the notes for all the objectives, I used these notes to study from. I have used this strategy for all my courses.

I am taking my CSMs now for the spring 2013 admissions. I see a lot of you are applying for the fall. Is anyone else here doing it for the spring 2013? I am also going to post youtube videos. Good luck to all of you :)

Hey,
I am in NoVa. I just applied to ISU's LPN-BSN program and a bit nervous as well as excited! I just finished my online application yesterday and am in the waiting process to see if I have be accepted to the University (Phase 1).
I'm a bit concerned because I still have not taken the CLEP my algebra course, yet ISU told me to go ahead and apply??
Anyone have any thing like this happen to them?
Also, just did my TEAs for a different program I applied too. I got the following
Individual 63.3
Reading 61
Math 76
Science 54
English 66
Soooo annoyed the reading and the individual did not meet the benchmark for ISU too. (70 in reading and 65 in individual) Will I have to retake just the reading or all four parts? Ugh! Any feedback is welcomed! Thanks :) Good luck to you all! :)

Did you buy the ATi book and study it? That often helps.
