Indiana State University LPN-BSN 2012

Nursing Students Indiana (ISU)

Published

Hello,

I am due to start the LPN-BSN program at Indiana State University in the fall of 2012 and decided to start a thread for fellow students who may be starting around the same time so that we can connect and support each other.

I'm in Maryland ;)

I don't know when you have time to study or take classes, since you spend so much time writing misinformation on this site!

I appreciate the statement that I am "providing misinformation" although I believe the accusation to be incorrect. My statements about the program are based on truth. If you believe something I have written is untrue, instead of making a broad statement, be specific. Exactly what information have I provided about the ISU DL LPN to BSN nursing program that was misleading or untrue. Without specifics on your part, you are only being argumentative and being most unhelpful to those seeking information about the ISU distant learning LPN to BSN program.

What are your experiences with the ISU DL LPN to BSN nursing program? Are you in the challenge exam process? Have you actually started the program? How far have you matriculated and what are your experiences with the program and professors?

As a nurse you will learn to juggle many things--work, study, family, play, and possibly if there is time left, self care. Of course, it helps if you can type very quickly.

I have spoken with Kim Kimber several times and she gave me some very helpful information plus she got back to me very quickly. I should have contacted her about the last post but I know they are busy with other students so thats why I tunred to allnurses.com to try to get my questions answered by people that have already been through the program. So far since I have enrolled at ISU everyone have returned my calls either by phone or e-mail so that says a lot about a school to me. I do not know the experience that other people have had with ISU but I do believe everyone experiences are all going to be different. I am not the type of person that gets turned off with something just because of a comment. I like to experience things myself and learn from the bad experience if any and grow from the positive experience. With that said since I joined allnurses.com people have been giving me good advice and comments that have been made to others have helped me to and I have decided ISU is the college of my choice only because I have done my research and a lot of colleges her in Jacksonville requires us to have so much and the accreditations are not good. I have a fulltime job and I can not afford to go to school Mon-Fri 8-6. Who's going to help me with my bills? This may be a mistake with me taking this type of program online or it may not be. Excelsior College I was also looking into but the only thing I did not feel was right for me is the clinical time. I would like more clinical time. I have very good study habits and I also have people I can call on for help when preparing for the NCLEX. I know this is going to be a struggle but life is a struggle. I will love to get my RN degree and I feel like this school can help me do it. No school is perfect they all have there flaws. We have some excellent schools here in Jacksonville and I have heard negative things about all of them are they true? Some are true and some not so true but we can not let that keep us from our goal. The more education you get the better. I don't know about you but I want a better education. ISU have positive and negative issues but so do most school. I am willing to fight through all of this to get my degree. That's the most important thing to me.

It is good to hear that you have decided to try ISU. Have you taken all you challenge exams and are you going to start Fall 2012? Did you buy the TCN study guides or study on your own? Keep in touch and let us know how you are progressing.

Did not take the challenge exams nor am I in the LPN-BS track.

I must agree with the previous post about Indiana State nursing Dept. mainly Mrs. Kimbler giving accurate information. I am a recepient of getting as much information from the staff with ISU. I believe we should respect the fact that if one is a student and the other is a staff member, then the staff member should be able to provide us with accurate information. I look forward to beginning my nursing education with ISU fall 2012.

Ladyinscrubs, it sounds as though you are trying to provoke an arguement of some sort. I am grateful Mrs. Kimbler didn't feed into this behavior.

Thank you Mrs. Kimbler for getting correct information to me. I was told that I didn't need to go through College Network. I will see you in the fall.

2brn09, i appreciate your statement. i note that you asked me for information about isu numerous times, and you did not mention whether the information i provided was correct or not. you will also note that i referred you to isu for definitive information about the program.

when you started your search for your degree after you graduated as an lpn late last year, were you referred to tcn? did you talk to the learning network's salesperson? did you buy their expensive study guides? instead, did you study on your own employing nursing text books? at what point during each challenge exam did you receive the free isu study guides? how long before you took the tests did you receive the free isu study guides and recommended nursing texts to study from?

i note that the two people who attacked me for discussing isu's shortcomings, are not students at isu nor have taken any lpn to bsn nursing classes. i continue to state that there are severe problems within the program, and isu needs to be more forthcoming about the program. without information about isu, those wishing to enter the program must do their own due diligence. without specifics they will walk away from isu; that is why many ask questions on an.

we have already seen one post from a potential student, who stated numerous times, that ms. kimber failed to return calls or follow up. he also sated that if the administration at isu treats him this way when he is not a paying student and want him to apply to the program, how will he be treated when he applies and is paying for the program. that post echoes my statements.

i look forward to reading your posts after you have taken the two required interim courses and become an admitted nursing student in jan 2013. keep us informed of your progress, and whether the issues i outlined about isu still apply.

did not take the challenge exams nor am i in the lpn-bs track.[/quote]

are you working towards becoming an admitted lpn working towards your bsn in the lpn to bsn program at indiana state university? i look forward to hearing about your thoughts of the program as you matriculate.

Ladyinscrubs, I did indeed ask you some questions being that you are a student at ISU. I value your experience as a student. I will be entering the program Fall 2012. I have been working as a LPN for 8 years and have a BS in Psychology with Troy University Alabama. My point was that as a student, I feel that whether or not your post were accurate or inaccurate I believe that each person that posts on this forum should be respected. I didn't notice any names that were in the post regarding finger pointing except the one that you placed in your post. It is only my opinion, but I felt that it was not warranted. If you have a problem with what was posted why not pick up the phone and call. There was a number left for anyone to call and get more information. I will keep you posted on my experience. As many universities and colleges are not perfect, but i'm sure they would love to get feedback from students such as yourself to improve their programs. Thank you,

1. given the type and number of questions addressed to me, the evidence shows i have been respectful of those seeking my experience and information about isu.

2. allnurses is a forum by nurses for nurses to educate and discuss issues or problems. to protect identity, posts are annonymous. yet, ms. kimber chose to identify herself as the student information/contact person at isu. she not only provided her name but also her telephone number as well as email address.

3. numerous posts discussed how the contact person at isu failed to return their phone calls or failed to provide them with information about the lpn to bsn program. instead, according to the posts, the contact person (ms. kimber) had the college network contact the potential student--whether the student wanted to use isu or not.

4. had ms. kimber prefer to remain annonmyous, she could have posted annonmously, but that would have defeated the reason for her post. i suppose i could have addressed ms. kimber by some third party reference such as 'that person at isu who is responsible for student contact and to provide isu information', but her name is more appropriate. it should be noted that a previous post by another an nurse identified the contact person at isu as "a kimber or cook" and how this person's customer service experience with "kimber or cook" was not satisfactory.

Ladyinscrubs I have not taken my challenge test yet but I am preparing now to take the mental heath exam because I just ordered the book on line on half ebay the one you recommended Straight A's in and so far the book is great. I look forward to your post everyday. I just wanted to know can you recommend any other books that will help me.

nope

3. Numerous posts discussed how the contact person at ISU failed to return their phone calls or failed to provide them with information about the LPN to BSN program. I suppose I could have addressed Ms. Kimber by some third party reference such as 'that person at ISU who is responsible for student contact and to provide ISU information', but her name is more appropriate. It should be noted that a previous post by another AN nurse identified the contact person at ISU as "a Kimber or Cook" and how this person's customer service experience with "Kimber or Cook" was not satisfactory.

might re-read the post for correct name
